Sarah Palin endorses Texas Gov. Rick Perry for re-election

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has endorsed Rick Perry for re-election, calling him the "true conservative" in a primary election showdown with fellow Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Palin, who electrified the GOP base as the party's vice presidential nominee last year, has strong support among the party's social conservatives. Her endorsement appeared aimed at undercutting Hutchison's appeal with GOP women. Both groups will be important in picking the party's nominee in next year's Republican primary.

In a letter to "Texas Republican women" distributed by the Perry campaign, Palin touts the Texas governor's conservative credentials.

"He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks by his guns – and you know how I feel about guns," she said.

Palin cited one of the Perry campaign's top issues – opposition to federal financial bailouts. And she singled out Perry's opposition to abortion rights.

"Not every child is born into ideal circumstances, but every life is sacred," Palin said in the mail appeal. "Rick Perry knows this – it is at the core of his being."

I guess Glenn read the same AP headline everyone keeps repeating... Google Palin and news and read the facts.

I worked with Kay on her first campaign (losing) in ‘82 - yikes....

Whether you agree or disagree, don’t underestimate.

Personally I miss Bill Clements.

I particularly like this comment Sarah made:

Palin cited one of the Perry campaign’s top issues – opposition to federal financial bailouts. And she singled out Perry’s opposition to abortion rights.

She is AGAINST federal financial bailouts. No wonder she and John McCain couldn’t see eye to eye after he voted yes on the bailout

Glad to hear that. However, I’m disappointed that she endorsed Rick Perry. If you wonder why, read about the Trans Texas Coridor and Perry’s efforts to bring it to fruition.

You could spend all day here though, beating down the rumor she is in favor of bailouts.

Sarah don’t have a horse in this race and isn’t too familiar with Texas Gov. Goodhair. Here in the Lone Star state, we spell “Perry” R-I-N-O.

‘Nuff said.

And between Rick Perry and KBH - gag me with a spoon. I hope they don’t hand TX to the rats.

I know I know, but heck what can ya do, people are gonna believe what they want to believe. It’s like trying to convince the OJ jury that OJ was really guilty, they will still believe that he was framed

“Birds of a feather?”

Well, if we have lost Sarah, then as conservatives, we are truly lost in the wilderness.

Personally I miss Bill Clements.

I liked him, too, he was a good governor. But the best one was Dolph Briscoe. Dolph proved in the 70s that Texas didn't need a governor (because he rarely showed up at the state house in Austin) and he never shared his opinion on any issue affecting Texas until 3 days after he was asked when his wife Janey told him what his opinion was.

Compared to Kay Baily, Perry looks like a major Conservative.

Since only one of the two will win, better Perry

There is still quite a bit that is not know about Governor Palin’s positions on the issues. And this endorsement of Perry is curious. Why so soon?

Supporting a gov who used an executive order to require
girls as young as 12 to receive the dangerous vaccine,
Gardasil, is pathetic!

Shame on Sarah.

Interesting dynamics. Any Texans have a handle on this race?

Don't have much of a handle but I'm certainly not underestimating Hutchison. She's a proven vote-getter in this state. In 2000, she was on the ballot with Bush and got 300,000 more votes than he did.

Dems can cross over in the primary so I'm guessing that Hutchison has an edge. If Bill White were running on the Dem side against Hutchison in the general, that would be a titanic struggle because a lot of conservatives might sit it out. However, White says he's gonna run for the Senate.

I don’t know, my friend. And I don’t know the political scene in Texas. That’s why I’m asking. -:)

You haven’t lost Sarah, she is a Conservative, read what Michelle Malkin wrote, and also check out Sarah’s own web site you will see that she is against it. She and Mark Sanford both share the same opinion about the package
