Well, as far as I can tell, I'm the only one on this thread that provided that link. I am not "trying to bury my head in the sand", rather trying to understand the full content of Michael Steele's positions on various issues.

Steele was asked a simple straight forward question on whether or not he thought that Roe v. Wade should be overturned and after a lenghty song and dance worthy of Bill Clinton, he ultimately stated that he wanted it to remain the law of the land.

I don't think even Bill Clinton on his best day could dissemble like Steele did with Russert, but ultimately Russert got him to admit that he thinks that Roe v. Wade should remain in place and not be overturned. No one who is pro-life could take that position, not even for a minute.

Now he wants to reach across the aisle and try to appeal to pro-aborts. In my mind that is like reaching across the aisle to try to lure Nazis into your party. We need to make it clear that we believe that Abortion is murder. By reaching out and trying to mollify pro-abortionists and trying to convince them that we are not as pro-life as we pretenc (and apparently we are not) then all we are doing is diluting the pro-life message and selling our souls to the devil in order to win a few votes that most likely will never come our way anyway.

Steele was the wrong man for this position and he proved it the moment he was elected. He didn't waste a minute.

Allright, and thank you for that explanation. I'm not saying you're wrong on this issue, I'm just not ready to throw Steele under the bus quite yet. I will continue to watch and learn more about Michael Steele, his actions, and those that follow his lead.

Right now, the Republican party has a real opportunity to make a comeback. I agree that giving up on core principle beliefs is not the way to go. Convincing others of the morality of Conservative ideals is. I read Ken Blackwell's statement, Why I Endorsed Michael Steele and was encouraged. I agree wholeheartedly with Blackwell's assessment on where the party needs to stay strong while growing our base. If Michael Steele takes this party down the wrong road and further erodes the base, I will be the first to admit any support for him was based on hope and nothing more.

If Michael Steele does what he proposed to get elected, I will be very happy. I think Blackwell is a principled pragmatist. We all need to be part of the solution to "convert" more people to Conservative ideology. If it means holding Steele's (and other Republicans) feet to the fire on principles while taking advantage of his organizational/communication abilities....I can do that. If it means throwing Steele under the bus (figuratively) because he leads the party down the wrong path, I can do that.
