The era of good government is off to a rousing start.
Within minutes of upgrading from the Springfield EconoLodge to the Governor's mansion, populist Pat Quinn proposed moving the 2010 primary election from February to September.
To signal a new era of executive branch-legislative branch camaraderie, McHenry County legislator and Mike Madigan suck toy Jack Franks filed legislation last week to similarly move the primary to the fall of 2010.
When asked to explain the rationale behind this idea, Quinn and Franks contained their snickering long enough to squeeze out a few insincere bromides about needing more time "to conduct the people's business".
Are you ready to chomp down on this lure cast by Chicago Democrats?
Well, if you are, then you must be a Republican legislative leader like State Senator Christine Radogno. She is easily identified by the hook protruding from her upper lip and is currently being reeled to shore.
It is in the interests of Chicago Democrats to make the 2010 general election as short as possible. Do you think Democrats would rather give Republicans 60 days to hang Rod Blagojevich around the neck of their gubernatorial nominee or nine months?
Maybe confused Republicans could seek instruction from Jim Ryan and Judy Baar Topinka, and ask them how much they enjoyed being relentlessly tied to George Ryan for the better part of a year during their respective gubernatorial bids.
Democrats stuck an apple in his mouth and feasted on George Ryan for four years and three election cycles. In contrast, presented with Blagojevich flambé, atrophied and hapless Republican leadership title holders are not even trying to make their meal last.
Chicago Democrats control Illinois for the same reason that the Pittsburgh Steelers are Super Bowl champs: they simply play the game better than their competition.
Yeah, right! Did Daley die?
Fat chance.
To be good, government MUST be small.
That desired attibute is highly unlikely with the ongoing, bureaucratic pigs at the trough environment, deeply ingrained in the character of Illinois.
Perhaps the most alarming “quality” of the POTUS is his meteoric rising through Illinois politics that has not been thoroughly vetted.
Republicans in Illinois? Where?
The most corrupt city in The United States.
When are the peasants of the rest of the state going to rid themselves of King Dailey?
