Punxsutawney Phil is not a God; he is only a Demi-God, like Hercules.

Stupidest American Tradition Ever. C'mon, most American Traditions are really nothing more than excuses to get together, dress funny and drink beer. Nothing stupid about that.
Now that I think about it, though, getting up at 4 AM so you can drink beer at dawn on a freezing Pennsylvania hilltop in February is kinda stupid...

getting up at 4 AM so you can drink beer at dawn on a freezing Pennsylvania hilltop in February is kinda stupid... No dumber than sitting out in a blizzard, drinking beer, and watching a football game...when you could just as easily be sitting inside where it's warm with the same beer and seeing the same game on a Big-Screen TV. :-)
I've done both. Now that I'm older, I must say that I prefer the latter (inside) to the former (blizzard)....

The tradition itself isn’t stupid, but the idea of throngs of people up at 4 AM is quite perplexing to me.

I've done both. Now that I'm older, I must say that I prefer the latter (inside) to the former (blizzard).... It's called "wisdom"...

Not at all. Any reference to “good luck” or “signs” or “jinxs” or “superstitions” is in effect attributing power to something other than God. That is idolotry and blasphemy,.
