Senator John Kyl (R- AZ) proves he is smoking dope by lauding the potential choice of Republican Senator Judd Gregg for Commerce Secretary. On Fox news Sunday, Kyl drooled, "It shows a great deal of perspicacity on the part of President Obama to select a guy like Judd Gregg, who is just a phenomenal senator, very bright."
Regardless of Greggs checkbook street-cred, his departure from the Senate would take the rolls one step closer to a filibuster-proof majority for the Dems. Senior Republicans, however, believe there is no danger of Obama taking advantage of that opportunity. If Gregg leaves, the Democratic Governor of New Hampshire would hold that decision. Not to worry...nothing to see here folks.
Naked Emperor Mitch McConnell assured us on "Face the Nation," "Sen. Gregg has assured me that if it were to happen, it would not change the makeup of the Senate. It would have no effect on the balance of power in the Senate.
Well, good, as long as you say so Mitch. However, maybe rather than dropping the entire fate of the nation on the roulette wheel, perhaps you folks should assist Judd in politely declining? Wouldn't you do the same if your buddy had beer goggles, and was hitting on a toothless chick?

It’s not the most conservative record in the Senate, but at a 78 lifetime ACU score, I think that’s as good as we’re getting out of New Hampshire.

Exactly. Pull a small-r republican out of the senate, and allow a Democrat governor to appoint his replacement.

Hussein can hire Gregg then fire him six months later. He gets another senator and it only costs him 6 months wait until he can appoint the person he actually wants. If he gets his 60 and is dead sure of all the Democrats in the Senate he may not wait the 6 months and can have the satisfaction of charging the Republican Secretary with some malfeasance as he kicks him out.
These Republicans are clueless. They actually believe they can trust the Democrats. They are fools.
He's a second generation politician (as were Jeffords and Chaffee -- Gregg's father was governor in the 1950s) and the country's getting pretty tired of politics as a family business.
If Kyl and other Republicans believe that, we are in for a very long four years. Of course, it will make a difference in the Senate makeup - a big difference. One more democrat, one less Republican - that is scary!!!

Some Freepers have said that the NH Gov would have to appoint someone of the same party as Gregg. However, there’s nothing in NH statute that requires it, and nothing would prevent Dem Gov Lynch from appointing a Dem:

I’m betting that NH Gov will appoint Dem Congressman Paul Hodes, based on the following facts:
1. Hodes said he wants to challenge Gregg for that Senate seat.
2. Hodes endorsed Obama in the NH primary.
3. Hodes is invited to Obama’s Super Bowl party at the WH tonight.
And .. we should believe that because ..............???
I can't seem to find a good reason.
Obamaland has orchestrated this whole deal .. it's just another way to take the repubs out of the action and give the dems MORE POWER .. MORE POWERE .. MORE POWER.
But .. our "moderate" opposition .. is just too blind to see the truth. They are ignorant to the dems treachery.
