Under Obama, `war on terror' catchphrase fading

WASHINGTON – The "War on Terror" is losing the war of words.

The catchphrase burned into the American lexicon hours after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is fading away, slowly if not deliberately being replaced by a new administration bent on repairing the U.S. image among Muslim nations.

Since taking office less than two weeks ago, President Barack Obama has talked broadly of the "enduring struggle against terrorism and extremism." Another time it was an "ongoing struggle."

He has pledged to "go after" extremists and "win this fight." There even was an oblique reference to a "twilight struggle" as the U.S. relentlessly pursues those who threaten the country.

We are indeed in our “twilight struggle. Somehow I don’t think we will win it. End of time.

As numerous commentators have pointed out, “War on Terror” was itself a euphemism. You don’t fight terror, you fight terrorists and their supporters. But that’s not the whole story, either. In particular, you fight Islamic terrorists, or Islamofascism, or perhaps Islam itself.

But Bush sanitized “Islam” out of the equation. And now, it seems, Obama intends to sanitize “war” out of the equation.

Next step, no doubt, will be to find a more politically correct way to phrrase it. How about “Dialogue with the Differently Opinioned”? Or more simply, “Dialogue with Others.”

With the economy in turmoil, defense spending cuts looming, and the US being lead by leftists morons, terrorists have a prime opportunity to strike again.

“That seems awfully aggressive. Doesn’t he mean: “seek to engage other parties in a dispute resolution process”?”

That is only possible if he can convince the other parties to seek pyschological treatment or enroll in a state-sponsored anger management course.

Taxpayer-funded, of course.

This is what the country gets and deserves for electing this POS, whose only real job experience in his life was registering people to vote.

I am going to say this outloud...This guy acts like a double agent. Think about it...Clinton was (is) just as liberal and he didn’t act like this.

That's' because he is. He is the puppet, now who is the puppet master? He is not a normal far left liberal. His *job* is to implement a plan, what all does that plan entail and who is calling the shots? That's the question. It's not IF, it's who and what.

This just keeps getting more amazing every day.

And it has been less than 2 weeks.

I can't wait (sarc) to see what happens over the next 4 years.

He thinks people are all the same, and we just have to hang out, have some drinks and smokes, and settle our differences, shouldn’t take more than a few hours.

He's right! Us taxpayers should spring for Gold Flakes Supreme or Chopin vodka cocktails, a few slabs of Wagyu, and some packs of Davidoff Magnum Supreme Virginias every time there's crossness between nations, and Our Dear Leader will be able to smooth things over in a jiffy!

That commoner Bush was so pedestrian...

What the heck do they mean, catchphrase? Like those “buzz words” World War Two? The war on terror is not just something people in Washington gab about, like accountability. It’s a real thing going on in the real world.

exactly. are world bankers pulling his strings or "muslim extremists"? Or both? no one will discuss Obama's global poverty act and globalization dreams. Not even Hannity.

Let's give Obama all due credit. He has been in office less than 2 weeks and his offer to talk to Iran has made significant progress in changing the US image there.

"This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," Gholam Hossein Elham was quoted as saying by the Mehr news agency.

Thank you O for changing how our enemies view the United States. You confirm everything 57 million voters expected if you were elected.

The ‘real thing, going on in the real world’ is offensive to Obama’s muslim family (as he told the Arabic newspaper in his first interview.)

Whay won’t the 0bama clones use the word terrorist? Because Ayers has defined what terrorist is “The US forces in Viet Nam were terrorists.” and he is the one who has shaped and molded the mind of 0bama and many of the anti-American people he has surrounded himself with.

Read the following (BARF ALERT)Ayers letter June 5 2006:

Dear Andy,
June 5, 2006
June 5, 2006

I was first arrested opposing the American war against Viet Nam in October 1965. Thirty-nine of us were arrested disrupting a draft board by blocking the entrances and throwing files around. The war was illegal and unjust, and while I didn’t know much, I could see this plainly.
The Weather group was a faction of Students for a Democratic Society. I’d been a national officer—Education Secretary—of SDS and a founder of Weather when I was twenty-three-years-old. We went underground after an explosion killed my girl-friend and two other close friends, and we decided to stay free rather get entangled in the criminal justice nightmare. We wanted to survive what we saw as an impending American fascism in order to fight the empire. We wanted to organize the armed struggle.
We were (and are) radicals, which means we wanted fundamental, not superficial change. Radical means going to the root, connecting issues, analyzing deep causes of war, racism, exploitation and oppression.
We were never “terrorists,” never attacking people to frighten or coerce them. The US forces in Viet Nam were terrorists. I’m not a tactician, however, and I think tactics always have to flow from the conditions you find, and the goals you have. When we destroyed property, symbolic targets of war and racism, an overwhelming majority of Americans opposed the war as thousands of Vietnamese were being slaughtered every week in our name. We were the anti-terrorists.
I don’t know what we accomplished, but I’m sure we didn’t do enough. My biggest regret: my dogmatic, inflexible thinking, my intolerance of and impatience with potential allies. I don’t regret hurling myself against the war-mongers.
