New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg “would never allow his seat to go to a Democrat,” says a Republican close to President Obama’s presumptive pick for Commerce Secretary. “The only way he would allow it is if he died.” Buzz today is that if Gregg took the gig, his replacement would share parties with New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat. (If Al Franken is deemed the winner here in Minnesota, the Dems would then secure a veto filibuster-proof majority.) But The Hill now reports that Republicans are saying Gregg will only take the job if he’s guaranteed that the seat will stay in GOP hands. A Commerce Secretary Gregg, then, seems pretty unlikely. Lynch would face political backlash for appointing a Republican, and Gregg probably won’t unconditionally take the cabinet post. The Hill’s un-named Republican says Gregg would “consider it to be a breach of trust to people who elected [him].”

Hopefully Gregg won’t take the job unless the NH governor agrees to appoint a Republican. Hopefully.

And hopefully the gov will not break his promise.

Sure he will.

His state has shifted toward Democrats in recent years

...a state that proudly rebukes government spending

Someone might want to explain the definition of "mutually exclusive" to the voters of New Hampshire.

While I think I see the sarcasm in the 'hope', it is true that Eternam Optimism will be a useful personality trait for the next 4 years.

That would leave the four decent Justices of the Supreme Court and Justice Kennedy, which, is no certainty, between us and President for Life 0bama. I hope their security is up to the task.

If he takes the job and they appoint a Democrat, I will consider the takeover underway.

Another expendible commerce secretary just like Ron Brown. Wonder how long he’ll last?

Just off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single reason why Gregg would make a good Commerce Secretary. But his pick is an excellent way of giving the Dems a filibuster-proof Senate.

Gregg should do himself and the country a favor, and turn down the job.

I e-mailed Gregg at his Senate office site, and urged him not to take the job.

A Constitutional amendment ratified by 2/3 of the state legislatures for congressional term limits automatically becomes law if done within the prescribed time period.

"We're gonna bring this party to every corner, every boardroom, every neighborhood, every community and we're gonna say to friend and foe alike: We want you to be a part of this, we want you to worth with us, and for those of you who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over...

"To my friends in the Northeast: get ready, baby. It's time to turn it on, and work to do what we always do well, and that is win."

I wonder if Gregg is the type of northeast (r)epublican that Mike Steele is so excited about having more of?

During the Clinton era Judd Gregg was presented with evidence that Anthony Marceca was possibly running illegal NCIC background checks from across the Potomac River at Ft. McNair Virginia on behalf of someone inside the White House.

Judd’s response was to sponsor a tweak in the existing law pertaining to misuse of NCIC.

And that was the end of that.

Plus the Republicans can go ahead and lose the seat in 2009 and instead of waiting for 2010 to face another NH disaster.

He better get it in writing, because Dims cannot be trusted.

Obama wants to get another (R) out of the senate, knowing that NH’s democrat governor would appoint another Dem.

Does Senator Feingold still want to repeal the part of the 17th Amendment which authorizes gubernatorial filling of Senate vacancies?

Judd Gregg is a RINO. If he becomes Commerce Secretary, he will become a full blown traitor.

After two years of Obama, NH will reverse itself and trend Republican. This is a surety. Gregg needs to stay put to see this happen. He will be in a great position to be re-elected when Obama’s policies take hold and the country sees the Real Obama.
