Steele asked the question, What do you need an assault weapon for if youre going hunting? Do a Google search or go to http://www.ontheissues.org. If you look you can listen to the interview in which he shows his complete ignorance of the purpose of the second amendment.
Steele is NOT a conservative. He supports Roe v. Wade, affirmative action, and is against the death penalty. He was picked because he was black in what will be a futile effort to attract black voters.
For those of you who don’t understand the 2nd amendment, which is apparently quite a few: Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive.
Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787).
Thanks for clarifying Steele’s principles. Sorry to see they are wobbly. From reports by my husband I had expected someone more grounded.
Ah, it is going to be a time of tribulation, isn’t it?
I’m in a good mental place now for not letting it eat me up, but I think I should also enjoy the mental peace of squeezing off a few rounds at the target range.
