What religion are you? I am Catholic and pardon me for being a little thrilled to see my coreligionist for what I know as the first time to thold the chair. Appealing to religious groups does matter a great deal.

John McCain did not do enough to make the life issue to appeal to Catholics. Those Catholics ought to have known better but if you don’t throw a bone you can’t complain (plus the economic crisis killed him). Catholics are well aligned with the GOP on life and many other issues and Steele has the credibility and ability to communicate that to Catholics and all Americans.

For what it's worth, I am LCMS. I am not anti-Catholic. I'm saying that if you want to claim Steele because he's Catholic, you're also going to have to claim Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry, etc.

The most prominent LCMS politician I know of was Paul Simon and I am embarrassed to admit he was LCMS and would not have voted for him under any circumstance.

Yet the LCMS is a very conservative denomination so go figure.

I'm happy that you're happy but I just wouldn't read too much into it for the reasons stated. Religion should have more to do with a person's political beliefs than they obviously do. I would never vote for a person based on what church they attend. It's not reliable.

Dear Norman Bates,

I'm pretty sure that former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie is also Catholic. At least, he graduated from the Catholic University of America (my own alma mater). He was RNC Chairman during part of the time when Terry McAuliffe was DNC Chairman. Both are graduates of CUA.

To most Catholic voters, their take on the redistribution of wealth trumps their prolife views. They consider the fact that a Democrat politician is willing to take from one and give to another more virtuous than being prolife.

Again, do not misinterpret my statement to be anti-Catholic. I am only stating a fact.

There are also many Catholic union members who vote the Democrat party line.
