you can sneak in an a little illegal AM radio listening.I bought a radio at Big Lots that will run off an AC outlet, but it has a solar panel to assist the batteries when it's outside and if all else fails, a hand crank that winds a spring that turns a little generator.
I have a couple Baygen radios - the solar panel on them is so small the radio won't play unless in direct sun or a very bright inside light - but the hand crank winds up a spring powered generator and it doesn't use batteries at all. Of course those are a lot more expensive than the little dynamos that charge a battery.
The AM/FM model I have plays great, but the SW model isn't so good.
