For urinating on the Alamo in 1982, metal music madman Ozzy Osbourne was banned from performing in San Antonio for two decades.
For having sex with a 14-year-old San Antonio girl in one of the Alamos bathrooms, Charles Wayne Carmony, 43,of Kentucky found out Friday that he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Carmony, a convicted sex offender who was handed probation sentences for having sex with another 14-year-old girl there, apologized for lying to the San Antonio girl and her family while carrying on a relationship with her.
Over the course of at least three years, Carmony duped the San Antonio girl, now 17, into believing he was 19 years old. He was 40 at the time.
He gave her gifts, including a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and had sex with her in various places, including movie theaters around town and in the mens restroom at the Alamo. He also posted sexual images of her on an Internet chat room, bragging that he was in one image having sex with the girl.
He pleaded guilty to production of child pornography, and a count of traveling across state lines to have sex with a minor was dropped.
"Its like really destroyed my trust in men," the victim told U.S. District Judge Fred Biery. "I look at people differently. ... I fight with guys a lot. ... I dont want to be lied to."
"He led me to believe that he really loved me. Before he got arrested, we were trying for a baby," she added. "I really hope he stays in prison."
Biery rejected a call from Carmonys lawyer to give him 25 years. The judge instead agreed with prosecutor Tracy Braun that Carmony needed to be locked up for life so he wouldnt harm any more children.
The judge also ordered that Carmony serve a lifetime of federal supervision should he ever get out of prison. Life in federal prison means just that: Hell serve life, unless the sentence is overturned on appeal.
I came away understanding that.
Some morning radio show host used to call it the "Wayne Lee Ray" connection. Every crime in the paper was committed by a guy with one of those middle names.
Variants (DeWayne, Le'ray) were allowed and in fact, encouraged.
One guy in particular that I remember was "Wayne Ray Lee" (not kidding). Poor guy started out with three strikes, he never stood a chance.
Anything other than visiting the Alamo to appreciate the sacrifices those brave men made for Texas and all of us, is not good. Unless someone wants to hand farm sugarcane and date big bros for a number of years, they best remember DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS.
Ah, good times. Good times.
You need to explain that math to me. How can an 18 year old have spent 20 years in prison?
Ha!
In the 1930's, I do believe the Alamo was a downtown business, maybe a drugstore?
It certainly wasn't out in a pasture somewhere.
It's a few blocks from the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Did cattle graze there in the 1910-1920 era? I have no idea. I do know from interviewing people for history projects that cattle grazed on the grounds of the State Capital in Austin in the twenties.
The song was written by Dmitri Tiomkin for the movie The Alamo in 1960. Tiomkin was a Russian Jew who emigrated to the US and scored movies like It's a Wonderful Life and High Noon. It's Hollywood, so there are doubtless inaccuracies.
I think you mean “in”.

one of the worst child predators ever to
come through our area. (News 4 WOAI)
19? Haul in the girl’s parents for some serious questioning.
