They are supposed to vote now on forever barring him from ever holding elected office in Illinois again.

Impeached. And convicted. Of being an asshole.

Thanks to Fitz's premature, er, accusation, they really didn't have much else on Blago...

Blago broke the rules of Chicago Bribe Club: you do not talk about Bribe Club. The second rule of Bribe Club is you DO NOT talk about Bribe Club.

"It’s time for Rod to take the rest of the rats down with the ship."

I've silently hoped Blagojevich would open the can that holds all zero's worms .. I'd hoped it would be a public spectacle, but ALAS! .. if that could have happened ... the chance was lost when he tried to plead his case before the senate.

I did perk up when he started naming names .. "If you're going to impeach me for that, than you've got to impeach Kennedy ... " .. etc.

ALAS and ALAK ... 'twas not to be.

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich(Dem) has been removed as Governor by the Illinois State Senate. The vote was unanimous. 59-0

Gov. Rod Blagojevich was convicted at his impeachment trial and thrown out of office Thursday, ending a nearly two-month crisis that erupted with his arrest on charges he tried to sell Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat. Blagojevich becomes the first U.S. governor in more than 20 years to be removed by impeachment.

After a four-day trial, the Illinois Senate voted 59-0 to convict him on the broad charge of abuse of power, then again to disqualify him from ever again holding office in Illinois.

Under state law, the verdict instantly removed Blagojevich, a second-term Democrat schooled in the bare-knuckle politics of the Chicago Machine.

Democratic Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn, one of his critics, automatically became governor.

Senators rose to applaud Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Fitzgerald, who presided over the trial, after he signed the order removing Blagojevich.

Blagojevich's ordeal is far from over. Federal prosecutors are expected to bring a corruption indictment against him by April, after which a trial date will be set.

Blagojevich, 52, had boycotted the first three days of the impeachment trial, calling the proceedings a kangaroo court. But on Thursday, he went before the Senate to beg for his job, delivering a 47-minute plea that was, by turns, defiant, humble and sentimental.

He argued, again, that he did nothing wrong, and warned his impeachment would set a "dangerous and chilling precedent."

"You haven't proved a crime, and you can't because it didn't happen," Blagojevich told the lawmakers. "How can you throw a governor out of office with insufficient and incomplete evidence?"

I don't feel sorry for him, all he did was discuss what any other liberal would do. What was taboo was he stepped lightly on the wrong liberal toes somewhere, probably 0bama's.

Lt. Governor is Patrick Quinn, a guy who made his political reputation by establishing a citizens utility board to combat utility rates (CUB).

Quinn is expected to be sworn in before midnight.

I miss Blago. He ran the Rat playbook perfectly and they hated him for it.
Dealt the race card right from the bottom of the deck.
It’s a thing of beauty.

House impeaches; Senate convicts.

You can be impeached, as Clinton was, but not convicted and still hold office.

Blago was out the minute that the senate convicted.

He may have claimed that he was denied due process but an impeachment proceeding is not a criminal trial. Not the same rules.

Due process means you can’t be rushed off to prison without a trial.

Being impeached is not the same thing as being imprisoned.

But I’m sure that if I’ve erred in my thinking, some lawyers out there in Freeperland will correct me quickly.

The Chief of Staff's prediction:

Shut the **** up and listen to me for one second Rod. And I want you to listen carefully, because this is the last time I'm ever going to talk to you. You are ******* dead to me. You been ******* dead to Barack since '06, now you're dead to me. Know what that means? That means you're dead to my people in Chicago, Daley on down, and all these friends you think you have aren't gonna touch you with a ten foot ******* pole.

Listen up *******. The shi*'s gonna hit the fan, maybe tomorrow, maybe next month, and when Fitz finally brings down the hammer it's gonna be my name that's going through your head. You won't know the hows or the ******* whys, but it's gonna have my ******* fingerprints all over it. Have a great life fatso.
