According to the eminent authority, Amperand & Ampersand, apostrophes are never to be used when the likelihood of redundancy may repeat itself more than once.

Only in the Anglosphere, based on the article. I have no idea whether this is a problem in other languages with a Latin based alphabet like German, French, Spanish, etc.
