You said — “Yep, you just did catch me. I knew someone would bring up the Civil War and its “settlement” of the issue. Consider the Civil War as only a battle in an ongoing war and it might change your outlook?”

Okay, first — get going! LOL...

Secondly..., yes, I do see it as an ongoing battle. But, it’s limited because I don’t think it will ever go back to the way it was prior to the Civil War. I’m not sure exactly what things may be limited and what are not, but I know the Civil War was a “one-way passageway” through that event.

One thing that I think can be clearly said, we’ll never see the “door open” to any state removing themselves from the Union, that’s for sure...

Any more than that... well.., we do have this discussion board... :-)

Wow. I'm totally underwhelmed with the response to what I thought might be a thought provoking premise; that is, that conservatives might have some luck making noise in their respective states with grievances re the feral government. There are some hard core red states out there, Texas being one of 'em, that given a nudge by a group of angry serfs might yield some fruit. Not that the states would necessarily tell the federales, "Up yours, we're outta here" type scenario, but maybe a little blowback in instances of more egregious sins of the feds. If I were as good at writing as Øbama is at rhetorical flourish, I would set something to paper right here; right now, but alas...

Apparently I'm in a very small minority. I suppose it's just indicative of why we're in the mess we're in...

During the Civil War, while Lincoln was president, West Virginia was allowed to secede from Virginia without opposition. I'd say this fact alone cements the right to secede. You can't have it both ways.
