"Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the GOP member as Rep. Tom Price. Politico regrets the error."

Hi Dolly. You're so kind. Thank you. :)
In other words, you think for yourself instead of letting any media source, liberal or conservative, lead you around by the nose. I applaud you and wish there were more like you.
I noted myself that the headline did not match the article. Also, note that the journalist was trying to do the 'wedge' thing of getting Republicans to say something negative about another, then trying to get a 'reaction'. phoooey.
New Rule for Freepers: DO NOT BLAST AWAY AT A GOP LEADER ON THE BASIS OF AN UNVERIFIED MSM REPORT. It's the old 'divide and conquer' by the liberals.
And they drive the non-shriekers away or into silence.
Plus I heard him this morning on CBS Radio saying that the stimulus package SHOULD NOT be passed and all republicans should vote against it.
It looks like he read the writing on the wall since yesterday.
The fact of the matter is that ALL republicans need to vote against this democrat vote buying boondoggle.
Every Republican voted against Clinton's socialist budget in the nineties, so the democrats had to take the blame.
And then the Republicans took over congress in the next midterm election.
Unfortunately they didn't notice they won.
The news source made a horrible headline, and then changed it.
The original thread with the original headline should stay to document the MSM's heavy leftist bias.
FR people are smart enough to keep up on stories like this and correct them without deleting the original liberal smearing.
It also shows that they will change something and never admit they did if it isn't documented.
I know what you mean. Here's a perfect example.
Thanks for the juice...
Everyone needs to READ THIS.
Gingrey (NOT PRICE) got ‘played’ by the Politico journalist, and it turned into statements that were reported in a way (out of context with a headline that was misleading) that cause a huge (over)reaction. Worse, Politico reported it as from a whole other COngressman making it worse. Rep Gingrey has apologized for it. see Hot Air:
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/28/gingrey-to-rush-im-sorry-so-sorry/
Yesterday, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) made headlines when he criticized Rush Limbaugh for hammering Republican leadership for their pliability on massive Democratic spending plans. He scoffed at the idea that Rush provides leadership, telling Politico that Rush and other commentators were merely living well and not having to worry about what was best for the party. Today, Gingrey is singing another tune entirely, attempting to clear up the misunderstanding:
Because of the high volume of phone calls and correspondence received by my office since the Politico article ran, I wanted to take a moment to speak directly to grassroots conservatives. Let me assure you, I am one of you. I believe I was sent to Washington to fight for and defend our traditional values of smaller government, lower taxes, a strong national defense, and the lives of the unborn. In my six years in Washington, I have led the charge on many of these issues. In fact, in 2008 The National Journal ranked me the #1 most conservative Member of the House of Representatives.
As long as I am in the Congress, I will continue to fight for and defend our sacred values. I have actively opposed every bailout, every rebate check, every so called stimulus. And on so many of these things, I see eye-to-eye with Rush Limbaugh. Regardless of what yesterdays headline may have read, I never told Rush to back off. I regret and apologize for the fact that my comments have offended and upset my fellow conservativesthat was not my intent. I am also sorry to see that my comments in defense of our Republican Leadership read much harsher than they actually were intended, but I recognize it is my responsibility to clarify my own comments.
Now more than ever, we need to articulate a clear conservative message that distinguishes our values and our approach from those of liberal Democrats who are seeking to move our nation in the wrong direction. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, and other conservative giants are the voices of the conservative movements conscience. Everyday, millions and millions of Americansmyself includedturn on their radios and televisions to listen to what they have to say, and we are inspired by their words and by their determination. At the end of the day, every member of the conservative movement, from our political commentators and thinkers to our elected officials, share an important and common purpose in advancing the cause of liberty, reigning in a bloated federal government, and defending our traditional family values.
Gingrey sent me an email apologizing for the politico statements, and I accept it, He’s been a good conservative so far and trying to hold the line...
BUT when he or someone else steps out of line we can’t hesitate to call them out on it, use the ‘ole carrot and stick.
I’ll be calling his office tomorrow thanking him for his vote against the PORCULUS bill today and his apology to Rush.
