“forcing young women into cultic, polygamous marriages “
There is absolutely no proof of that.

You see it your way & I see it my way. If you think for one moment I don't think FLDS men have not as you so put it... FLDS old geezers are banging a bunch of little girls night and day, then you are wrong. I don't claim to know what those old geezers do & in fact shudder to think about it, however I do think minor girls are having sex with some of them. As I asked you & will ask again when is/was the trial & what about Bleeding the Beast?

You guys know of any significant differences between the FLDS group and the LDS group, other than the geographical/ spacial polygamy issue? The FLDS practice Mormonism as taught by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.
The LDS practice Mormonism as adapted by the Utah sect following the 1890 Manifesto and the Second Manifesto of 1904.
Since both groups rely on continuous prophetic revelation, and because both groups recognize different prophets, there will naturally be some differences.
Although I am not an expert in FLDS doctrine, the following appear to be the main differences:
- Scripture - the FLDS use a "less edited" version of the BoM (e.g. white and delightsome vs. pure and delightsome).
- Temple Ceremony - lacking the same scrutiny as their LDS cousins, the FLDS are believed to practice a version of the rites closer to those developed by Joseph Smith (e.g. oh marvelous Lucifer, Christian pastors are hirelings of Satan, blood oaths, calls for the downfall of the United States, etc.).
- Blood Atonement - the FLDS are known to practice blood atonement against people whom they believe defame their sect, particularly those who attempt to rescue people from their cult. The LDS gave up the practice of blood atonement in the 19th century.
- Racism - it is believed Blacks and Hispanics are still denied the priesthood whereas the LDS sect abandoned the practice in 1978.
- Polygamy - the FLDS still practice D&C Section 132 as originally proclaimed by Joseph Smith whereas the LDS abandoned the practice sometime after the Second Manifesto.
- Fraud - the FLDS practice widespread welfare fraud (i.e. they "bleed the beast") whereas the LDS strictly obey welfare statutes.
I would like to know if anybody else knows of any other differences.

You are aware that polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs was sentenced to two consecutive prison terms of five years to life for his conviction on two counts of being an accomplice to rape, right?
As of 1/13/09, 36-YEAR-OLD RAYMOND MERRILL JESSOP AND ANOTHER FLDS MEMBER ARE SCHEDULED FOR TRIAL IN OCTOBER ON CHILD SEXUAL ASSUALT CHARGES.

There are indictments. But no trials yet. That can take years. We are not watching an episode of Law and Order that winds up in an hour.
I live in Texas. No offense to anybody that lives in the area, but the land in that part of the state is very cheap. The improvements are minimal, at best and the TTC is a non-issue.

And they lied when they bought that land too. It was supposed to be for hunting if I recall correctly. No big temple & all they built was in the plans when they bought it.

Oh, I think she prefers to live in America where the Constitution is supposed to protect her.You mean the constitutional right to be sexually abused as a child and brainwashed into thinking that women are nothing but sexual chattle for future gods? The Constitutional right to be the polygamist wife of a deviant sexual predator?
But God forbid she have a Big Mac or have to sit on a freeway while sipping a cup of coffee.

David Steed Allred came to Eldorado to buy 1691 acres of ranchland & told neighbors that he was going to transform the land into a corporate hunting retreat. As we know now that was a big lie.

“Written by ex FLDS or ex polygamists “
Yes they were. I figured they knew more than anyone.
One of them was written by a direct descendent of Mitt Romney in the last 1800’s. She did not have an axe to grind.

Legally, but otherwise, I doubt it.
Nobody can stop someone from writing a book and lying in it.

In fact the whole mess started because of a lie told by a whacked out liar. Has that *whacked out liar* been convicted in a court of law yet, or do you just have an axe to grind?
She's innocent until proved guilty, just like child molesters.

Yea, she can do as she please but have you never heard of women staying in abusive relationships and even praising the fellow during the abuse. It sure sounds like this is what is going on here.
I am finding it intriguing that you are totally dismissing the mothers accounts.

If they've done nothing wrong, why are you so quick to distance the LDS from the FLDS when someone calls the FLDS "Mormons"?

When it's against the FLDS, it's lies beginning to end.
When it's for the FLDS, it's gospel truth, written in stone.
No chance, I suppose, that the FLDS is lying?
Nah, the whole rest of the world is.

I live in what was once the greatest nation on earth. I would say right now we are in a holding pattern, and we could land back in the “greatest nation” slot or in the “also ran” bin.
We are in the “God waiting to judge Israel” holding pattern. We can decide the outcome still.
As an aside, I do not pretend to read Betty’s mind much less put much stock in a teen’s decisions. I do trust hem to corroborate or dispute facts, if selectively.

Jeffs is in prison. That’s one conviction right there.
(I see someone mentioned that already)
