"....I like the local parades myself...."

Me too. Bay St Louis and Pass Christian have (That's Pass kris-TEE-anne, for those non-locals) great family oriented parades. All the beads, colors and not as much of the rowdy crowds as NOLA. The Pass was getting a bit rough until Katrina. Biloxi and Gulfport are like mini NOLAS. Mobile has GREAT parades and excellent, well behaved crowds.

You, know, folks did not understand how important Mardi Gras - 2006 was to this region. I'm sure you did.

I understand. One thing I will say about Nagin is that when there was a chorus of people suggesting we should cancel Mardi Gras in Nola in 2006 Nagin was adamant about having it. It turned out well. We took a break from rebuilding and attended a couple of Parades and I was really surprised at how nice it was. Up until that point I had not been in Nola since the Hurricane and I could not believe how well the Quarter was up and running.
