House GOP leader to Rush: Back off By: Jonathan Martin January 27, 2009 04:32 PM EST

Rush Limbaugh may command a large following, but his caustic comments Monday about the GOP’s congressional leadership have one of the House’s leading conservatives defending his colleagues and offering an unusually candid critique of the talk radio powerhouse and his fellow commentators.

Responding to President Obama’s recommendation to Republican congressional leaders last week that they not follow Limbaugh’s lead, the conservative talkmeister said on his show that Obama is “obviously more frightened of me than he is Mitch McConnell. He's more frightened of me, than he is of, say, John Boehner, which doesn't say much about our party."

Rep. Tom Price, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, did not take kindly to this assessment in an interview with Politico Tuesday.

“I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach,” Price said. “I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party. You know you’re just on these talk shows and you’re living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of that thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell.

Both sides of aisle are afraid of Rush, he can pull more strings with millions across the country than any of those suits in washington. If our elected officials talked to normal people everyday, Im sure they would be pissed off too.

No, I don't think so. But there is a squeeze play by the Dems for Rush. If Rush plays into this, and lots of people go knacky, the Dems just bring back the "Rush Limbaugh robots" trope.

Yes, and that’s the difference between Republicans and Conservatives.

Republicans hold to the same principles that liberals do, the acquisition and use of power.

Conservatives stand for something.

... everybody was on board for the things that happened during Bush's 8 years.

Oh, really? Buying more of that media spin, are you? Better to perceive that those very eight years, as Arnold Schwarzenegger's years as Gov of CA, served to confirm the divide you prefer to regard as a blame game.

Me: "YOUR way is guided by fear -- fear that a Democrat will win. " --- You: I hate to tell you, but THAT FEAR IS NOW REALITY.

And that fear, which had GOPers determining primary candidates solely based on Fear of Hillary, was handily manipulated by the MSM. That fear and the illusion of "all powerful" Hillary that was believed, had the GOP rushing around like spooked sheep; they ended up with a cowardly batch of GOP candidates who put Beating Hillary over Standing Up for Small Government Principle, and THEY LOST MISERABLY.

The GOP will either enunciate and promote principles that work (as in shrinking government and kicking government out of the way), or it will continue on its path of Nanny Government is OK as long as Republicans are the Nannies and it Doesn't Hurt Democrats' Feelings. That is GUARANTEED to lead to "Damned if you do, damned if you don't." Regardless of which party wins, you've got a political philosophy in place that essentially wants to feed you soup with a fork. It is guaranteed to fail.

I for one, and I find Rush an eloquent voice, am realizing the wisdom of rejecting that wholesale and letting the chips fall where they may. I have a much more optimistic prognosis for where those chips will fall than you do, because your perception of political reality is dominated by fear.

The liberals are laughing at our political divide.

SO WHAT?

Why do you care what the Liberals think? If you care what they think, then you're putting yourself in a situation where you let them control you.

The liberals do not control me but they control people like you who easily fall prey for their divide and conquer tactics. In other word, you are a useful idiot for liberals.

In other words, you think the divide is illusion, that the only reason Republicans aren't "as one" is because of media manipulation. You think that when the Republican party adopts positions that stand with Obama and Democrats on the most destructive issues that threaten our freedom and prosperity, issues such as global warming environmental regulation and a government-controlled health care system, and people like me say, "Nope, GOP. Not votin' for your guys or sending you any more money because you want to curtail my freedom and take my money as much as the Democrats," it's because I'm being victimized by "divide and conquer" tactics. That's what you think?

There's another possibility: YOU easily fall prey to their "Heads I win, tails you lose" illusion. More than a possibility -- a sad reality.

Please identify the grammatical incoherence in that paragraph.

Make that logically incoherent. It's just a string of non sequiturs that don't support your original claim, which was that I pretended that Politico was being manipulative with a fictitious headline.

That Politico wrote a false and inflammatory headline doesn't change the reality....

..that you use it as an opportunity to senselessly bash the GOP based on a fictitious headline. The headline has been proven false, so you resort to non sequitur rants instead. The rest of your post is simply more logically incoherent rants and baseless assumptions that have no relevance to the original argument. Also, the statement I posted from the actual House GOP leader throws a monkey wrench in your whole 'divide' argument. No wonder you didn't comment on it. Your just here to bash the GOP.

Exactly. I wouldn’t be surprised if a great number of them were among us in an attempt to rally as many people as possible against the GOP. I noticed that for all their ranting and raving, they never offer a viable solution for stopping the far left Democrats. They know full well that if everyone took their idiotic advice, like staying at home or voting for third party candidates, the far left Dems would have complete control of the country.

I want President Obama to succeed as a human being. I want, and pray for, evil (even his own) to be providentially thwarted and worked for Obama's and our good.

Let's remember Who really runs the show. He is good, He is merciful, and He is capable of saving even Obama.

Oh I am not saying the populace is there, they aren’t, they are still enjoying their bread and circuses for now. But, sadly that path is the only one that will get this country back in the hands of the people.

"The liberals are laughing at our political divide."

Not from where I sit. They are scared shitless we will retrench and rebound in mid-terms; the libs know better than anyone that nearly every same-party President has lost first-term mid-term seats in both houses.

A 35-seat swing leaves a slim 8-seat majority 221-213 (1 current absence by Rohm Ernst, er, Rohm Emuel; and I expect Gillibrand to be replaced by a Republican, so make that 220-214) - the Donks know they get one shot at trojan-horsing socialism in this bullshit trillion-dollar boondoogle before we're back to peeling away enough Blue Dogs to shut them down past 2010.

Know your history.

"Osama" Obama is trying to conquer the GOP opposition by cr exaccerbating the rift between the Pubbies in Congress and the leading "conservative" radio talk show hosts. So far, regrettably, his "divide and conquer" strategy seems to be working. This rift could have very serious consequences down the road.

BTW, Congressman Price called Mark Levin's radio show last night and said that "The Politico" misidentified him in this story.

Ah -- sounds like a a smooth save to resort to "logically incoherent" instead of "grammatically incoherent" when you realized that ineed, everything was grammatically correct in what I wrote. And what do you mean when you use the term non sequitur? A quick dictionary defines "non sequitur" as "a comment, due to its lack of meaning realtive to the comment it follows, is absurd to the point of being humorous or confusing." Clearly, "non sequitur" is subjective (unlike grammar) and in the eyes of the beholder. Something you may think is a non sequitur, someone else may find perfectly apropos.

I was logically correct and perfectly coherent in what I wrote. If you are looking for an example of "logical incoherence," look at the example of a headline and story which both are incorrect in specifics, but correct and accurate in the essentials -- and the reader who then discounts the truthfulness of the essentials because the specifics were incorrect. Kind of like saying that a news story about the Titanic that gets the name of the captain wrong and implies in the headline a quote that was never uttered, therefore means that the Titanic never sunk. Now maybe that's too fancy for your slow wit to follow and you will regard the Titanic example as a non sequitur, but we both know that really, such regard would be a game of semantics on your part.

"Your just here to bash the GOP."

Grammatically incorrect for certain, IMO logically incoherent, and possibly a non sequitur to boot. I'm here to bash big government Republicans in the GOP, and you know it. You just are too proud to admit it, and instead resort to cool-sounding buzzwords like "grammatically incoherent" and "non sequitur" because they make you feel smart. Use of language is my business, so it's kind of hard to pull the wool over my eyes in that department.

everything was grammatically correct

Congratulations! You get the Most Grammatically Correct Post Award

And what do you mean when you use the term non sequitur?

An example of a non sequitur would be to criticize anyone who criticizes a false headline from Politico. Then, when realizing their criticism has merit, going off on some rant about voting for a big-government Liberal Republican, which has nothing to do with the fact that Politico's headline was fictitious.

Now maybe that's too fancy for your slow wit to follow...

And here you've devolved into having to resort to silly personal attacks.
