And then only because it came with a sunset clause built-in. I'm not aware of a single gun law that's actually been proactively REPEALED with an actual vote required. Even the "class" of '94, who got elected because of the overreaching, didn't actually repeal the law that handed them the majority. Course it would have probably been largely symbolic, as the Sinkmaster was in orifice, but they didn't even bother.
Why is it that only liberals can move the ball? "Conservatives" at best stop further deterioration, and more often do a little deteriorating of their own, just not as fast or as extreme as the "D"s.
Because societies evolve "...from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again into bondage."
And that "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse...from the public treasury..." (Alexander Tyler, ~1750.)
We are currently in the midst of the transition from apathy to dependency - with Obama and the Democrats pressing the transition forward as fast as they can. Unfortunately history shows that the cycle doesn't run backwards and most civilizations don't last much beyond 200 years.
Our society is much invested in the concept of "Liberty" even though we have not had much for many, many years now. When America falls, it will fall hard.
