LITHONIA, Ga. -- Tanisha Cross never thought the stun gun she received for Christmas would come in handy so soon.
Cross said she was headed to Wal-Mart in Lithonia with her mother when she noticed a DeKalb County police officer being attacked by a suspect.
I just told my mom pull over, lets try to help, said Cross.
The 20-year-old mother, who received the stun gun as a gift from her husband, said she kept it in a diaper bag.

Cross said while others gathered to watch, she sprung into action.
"I went straight for my kids diaper bag and I got it and asked it if he [officer] wanted me to do it and he said, 'Yea,'" said Cross.
Cross said the officer had a hard time defending himself because the attacker had taken the officer's radio and managed to rub pepper spray in the officer's face and eyes.
Jolting the attacker, Cross' timing couldn't have been better. Cross said she tasered the suspect in his arms and legs.
Cross said she stunned the attacker to where the officer regained his composure and fought back until a security guard came to their aid.
"Hes brave," she said. "He did his best to keep him from his gun. He handled the situation very well. I was just glad I could help him," said Cross.
Cross doesnt consider herself a hero.
"Im just a bystander trying to help do the right thing," said Cross.
While what she did was brave and very helpful, I would have preferred that she bust a cap on the perp. He would never try to beat up another cop.
“Ms. Cross was later arrested by police for carrying an unauthorized weapon.”
Whoa! Go it Tanisha! Hope she doesn’t get prosecuted for carrying a weapon.

Great minds! ;-)
You go Tanesha!
Giving your child an “Afrocentric” name is saddling them with a statistical nightmare scenario of involvement with law enforcement.
This makes Tanisha even more of a hero in my mind. She overcame a lot, starting with her name.
Nice story...worth clicking on the link, and watching the 2 minute video with the young lady..she said she zaped him THREE times..good for her..
“Officer, I have a 45 here, would you like some help?”
It’s a tribal thing....she is a hero too.
Bet it was a black cop, but no matter. Blacks in the south are more respectful of authority than those in the North, because in the South there are lots of elected black officials.

I was the white guy with the black Burrberry jacket that you demanded I hand over shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend. You also asked for my girlfriend’s purse and earrings. I hope you somehow come across this message.
I’d like to apologize. I didn’t expect you to crap your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. Truth is, I was wearing the jacket for a reason that evening, and it wasn’t that cold outside. You see, my girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber 1911 .45 ACP pistol for Christmas, and we had just picked up a shoulder holster for it that evening. Beautiful pistol, eh? It’s a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, isn’t it?
I know it probably wasn’t a great deal of fun walking back to wherever you’d come from with that brown sludge flopping about in your pants. I’m sure it was even worse since you also ended up leaving your shoes, cellphone, and wallet with me. I couldn’t have you calling up any of your buddies to come help you try to mug us again. I took the liberty of calling your mother, or “Momma” as you had her listed in your cell, and explaining to her your situation. I also bought myself some gas on your card. I gave your shoes to one of the homeless guys over by Vinnie Van Go Go’s, along with all of the cash in your wallet, then I threw the wallet itself in a dumpster.. I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell. They’ll be on your bill in case you’d like to know which ones. Alltel recently shut down the line, and I’ve only had the phone for a little over a day now, s o I don’t know what’s going on with that. I hope they haven’t permanently cut off your service. I was about to make some threatening phone calls to the DA’s office with it. Oh well.
So, about your pants. I know that I was a little rough on you when you did this whole attempted mugging thing, so I’d like to make it up to you. I’m sure you’ve already washed your pants, so I’d like to help you out. I’d like to reimburse you for the detergent you used on the pants. What brand did you use, and was it liquid or powder? I’d also like to apologize for not killing you and instead making you walk back home humiliated. I’m hoping that you’ll reconsider your choice of path in life. Next time you might not be so lucky.
If you read this message, email me and we’ll do lunch and laundry. Peace!
- Alex
Good for her.
From her remarks, I predict that if not already, she is a budding conservative.
So does anyone know what happens if a personal hand tazer is applied for a few seconds to the forehead or breastbone region of an attacker? Can it do more than just temporarily incapacitate them? Just wondering.
DeKalb county has a very diverse police force because the citizenry IS very diverse ethnically and linguistically. Good chance the cop was black.
“She was also detained at a police ‘safety’ checkpoint for having a frayed seat belt strap.”
And she will probably be sued by the perp.
