A score whereby you garner more points than the opponent.
There is winning and there is subjugation. This wasn't a war...it was a basketball game. To what benefit is it to embarrass and humiliate your sports opponent? This is not professional nor semi-pro ball.
Overkill is a display of the lack of class.
You know, there are people around the world who routinely humiliate their opponents, where it is part of their culture. I don’t think of that as an American value at all. I think of Americans as good sports who like to win, but also really revel in a game that shows strength of character. If you think about the best sports stories none of them are about one team trouncing another (or beating the snot out of them to use a phrase I’ve seen several times). They are generally about someone doing something against all odds or showing extraordinary character.
