(CBS) "I've been through Y2K and I've been through 9/11," says gun shop owner Scott Moss. " I have never seen people so afraid as what we are seeing right now.
Business is booming at gun shops across the country, reports CBS news correspondent Jeff Glor. And at his store, Moss says it's because of uncertainty fueled by the economic crisis.
"If the banks didn't have any money there'd be rioting in the streets," says Moss. "So you're protecting yourself from Americans going crazy, rioting, looting and hurting each other."
FBI statistics show that in November, 2008 firearm purchaser background checks increased 42 percent over the previous year. In December they were up 24 percent.
Moss says his sales are up something like 300 percent.

People are getting ready.
My family sure stocked up on ammo and took an inventory or what we have to protect ourselves. When they pass laws making it harder to buy guns and expensive to buy ammo I want to be ready. And I won’t be giving up any of the guns they decide are illegal for me to have. I’ll follow the second amendment over their unconstitutional gun grabs.
I’m ready.
Moss also believes says fears that President Obama might make it more difficult to get a gun have led people to flock to his Norwalk, Conn. store.
One of those is 24-year-old Anthony Silvestro, a first time buyer.
Silvestro, who runs an auto body shop, says he's worried Mr. Obama might raise taxes on new gun purchases. He also worries that people will become more violent if the economy gets worse. He's getting a gun for personal protection.
"When you have a mixture of defensive people, lack of money, economy getting bad, you've got people that are depressed, people that might be upset---you know carrying a gun around you feel comfortable, you feel like you have a little power," Silvestro says.
I need more ammo. The Russian says the shooting in the USA will start about 2010. I tend to think he is close.
There are far more guns being purchased due to fear of Hussein and other Marxist, gun-grabbers than out of fear of other citizens. Naturally CBS is not about to broadcast that! And any economic conditions responsible for rioting will have been caused by our democrat friends in congress and in past White Houses. CBS won’t have much on that either.
“People are getting ready.”
People are sensing a disturbance in the Force.
I tend to think that this Third World administration will bungle its way into a Social War. I think many people see that-(In California more and more people are openly expressing the thought of “going to Sacramento.””- The third world dwarf Reich is a case in point: i.e. his statement that all the money being spent should not make white construction workers rich.... Hence, people are getting ready.
Ready
For a group of people who claim to be against "Racisim", they certainly do have a way with words.
White Americans are the only people deceived by the avoid “Racism” idea.
And these numbers don’t even include the many “under the table” private gun sales.
Even before the Obama-driven gun- buying frenzy went into overdrive, they always seemed to have the attitude that they were doing you a favor by selling you a pistol or checking you into or out of the range, instead of treating their customers, well, like customers. With the current climate, they must be absolutely insufferable, and so I make a point of staying away from that store. In fact, that's why I bought an additional $10,000+ worth of firearms over the past three or four years at gun shops other than his, even though Scott Moss' shop is one of the closest ones to my home.
If you're in Southwest Connecticut, IMHO it's worth driving an extra hour to get to Hoffman Guns in Newington (http://www.hoffgun.com/) instead of going to Moss' store - Hoffman's prices are much better, their stock of firearms is much, much better, and their sales staff are much, much, much friendlier and helpful, even as they deal with the difficulty of handling the recent crush of walk-in business. BTW Hoffman has opened a new, bigger store less than a mile away from the older store location (last year some thieves drove a truck through the front wall of the old building, loaded it up with guns and sped away - it'll be harder for them to do that at the new place)...
However, the hunting dogs that hang out in Moss's the shop are delightful!
Interesting - I didn’t even know that Bob’s Gun Exchange existed... Have to check it out the next time that I’m in that area...
Going back again tomorrow to ensure Salesman of the Century for Obama. Socialist waiting period will delay pick-up by 2 days. Fostering budding customer-salesman friendship with a knowledgeable gun collector. He is totally on board and aware of the situation we are in after the election. In a public retail setting our comments are between him and me, rather hushed. We don’t have to say much, we both know what could happen. We hope it doesn’t but are prepared if things go sideways.
Note the interspersal of automatic weapons demos as if this is what people are rushing to the gunshops to buy. CBS wants Joe and Lucy American to really fear people with guns. It might just induce lefties to go out and buy guns in fear of Conservatives.
