McCain: Not many regrets about campaign
The Hill, Washington DC ^ | 2009-01-25 | Klaus Marre

Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, said Sunday he had few regrets about his White House campaign and no second thoughts about picking Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

“I don’t have a lot of regrets about it. I think we ran an honorable campaign,” McCain said on “Fox News Sunday.”

The Arizona senator added that he was proud of things he had accomplished during the campaign and the people he surrounded himself with. In addition, he argued, the campaign may have made him “more effective here in Washington in these very difficult times.”

Asked specifically about Palin, McCain stressed that there were no regrets.

“I think the world of Sarah Palin. She energized our party. She has a bright future in our party. I’m pleased to have known her and her wonderful family,” he stated.

McCain noted that there is a great need for bipartisanship in light of the challenges the country and its new president are facing.

How about you keep voting for Libs and I’ll keep voting against them.

Exactly. He knew from the beginning he was going to lose.

I don't really understand how McCain won ...

He did not "win" as much as he was pronounced the winner on January 29th after the FL primary.

With only 7 states voting and totaling little more than 25% of the vote at the time, he was crowned as our candidate.

He was not/is not a republican. He is just a democrat in rino clothes. I suspect he lost his ba**s in North Vietnam.

More than anything else he simply waited till everyone else ran out of money. I voted for Hunter who hung in there till near the end by being conservative with what little money he had.

I wouldn't say McCain "threw" the election...
He was too "honorable" in his approach.

I cannot remember a time I have ever disagreed with you, however, this would be that time. (please mark your calender) ;*)

get rid of "winner take all" state primaries

Good, back to normal and once again, I agree completely.
Case in point - Virginia. With 50.04% MeInsane received all 63 delegates.

Also there should be no open primaries. Why allow the demonrats to vote in republican primaries and vice versa.

Nobody would ever consider running McCain again...no staff...nothing. He wouldn’t get a dollar...his days are over and might even be over as a Senator if the GOP fields a strong contender. John didn’t even do that well in Arizona in the presidential election.

Anything is possible.

We have to find a way to keep McCain from running again. Best way to do that is become active in the Republican Party at the precinct and county levels, and reshape the party from the ground up.

I remember it very well...in an airport carrying his own bags out of NH...yep...he was all but finished and then all of a sudden this campaign to kill Romney began out of the blue.

The solution is simple...move at least 6-7 southern primaries up in 2012 and we will not have a liberal rino as our nominee. Blue staters are picking our party’s nominee and it is not fair...it’s just stupid.

“This is what Democrats are working toward, a complete separation between Republicans in power and Conservatives.”

No, this is what McCain has done throughout his career. I know I will get flamed but I happen to know a pilot who flew with McCain. He cheated in cards and his later years as a POW were questionable. Enough said.

I voted for Hunter ...

As any thinking conservative would! ;*)

More than anything else he simply waited till everyone else ran out of money.

He did not have to do much, as he was guaranteed the nomination sometime between 2001 and 2004, IMHO. Perhaps it was to bribe him to not switch parties before jumpin' jim or join jon Effin sKerry's ticket or to pretend to support the President on the war. JMHO of course. ;*)

“Um, you might want to take a look around. I think there are a total of two of you voicing support for McQueeg in this thread.”

Um, I'm not voicing political support for McCain, I'm voicing disgust over the juvenile comments. They say a lot about the posters here.

Again, a stupid comment. Who did you vote for in the general election, Obama? You seem to be incapable of understanding a simple point. Keep your comments civil and you will get more respect.

He’s being an a-hole if he doesnt regret the mistakes he made, which were numerous.

I fail to see where I called your comments stupid.
OTOH you just made a comment that doesn’t qualify as civil.

I wrote in Palin. It’s McCain’s fault he lost not mine, play that card elsewhere.

I have ONE regret for mclame's campaign: that I voted for him. I wish he would have gone down even worse than he did.

I only voted for him because of Sarah, knowing fully well that MI would go obambi. I shoud have stuck to my guns when I said I'd never pull the lever for that man.

I never thought he really wanted to win in the first place, just like Bush I in 92.

I'm still waiting for McCain to name names like he promised. Maybe he regrets saying that he would do that, now that he has to go back and work with those nameless people?
