Ben Stein should feel more compassion toward those whom he screwed up with 'outrageously' misleading comments in his numerous appearances on business media.

For one thing, he could have told this sweet woman to keep her day job as a kept woman.
Then he could have told her to run, not walk, to the nearest place offering Financial Peace University and sign up.
Then sell the cars and buy beaters. And sell the house and rent something within her means.
That's what ordinary people have always known to do.
And if I had an indigent 21 year old that just married another indigent 20 year old- their choice of restaurants would be which one to work in, not eat in.

Hey Ben, could you send me the phone number of the soon-to-be ex-beau? I have some bills that need to be paid.

I can't comprehend the astral plane that this story issued from. The magnitude of the financial problem is beyond any thinking persons comprehension.
Why does Ben feel compelled to try to offer her advice? She obviously is a leech and as such should be ignored. The only thing she has to offer others is advice on how to take what isn't hers.
My advice to anyone who is having a tough time nowadays is for them to study the prior choices others have made that allows them to be free from worry in todays economy.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Sweet? I would call her **STUPID**!!!
She is reaping what she as sowed. ( And...I feel sorry for her kids who are likely very “messed up”.)

Let’s see, she took huge financial risks to live beyond her means. Depended on the belief of a never ending stream of money from x-husband and boyfriend, tries to run a store that never makes money, and has an interest only loan on a 2.7 million dollar house. Financial planning at its best.

America, a nation of free-spending Peter Pans. Ben Stein's right on this - and this is a well thought out piece.

She has a wealthy beau who pays her credit card bills and other incidentals, but she is thinking of telling him she is through with him.Looks like she has options not fully 'excercised'.

Damn...I thought Obama was going to help these poor people. Unless the gub'mint can step up with a $20,000 per month relief check, she's probably going to be forced to keep her boyfriend and that would probably suck for her.
If the government can use trillions of dollars of our money to bail out banks and car companies and such, why can't we give this poor woman a mere $20,000 a month?
It's heartless I tell you, heartless. And it's all Obama's fault.

Good, no. Great! I’m a big fan of the Stein.
It would do everybody some good to read this... the entire article. Thanks for posting it. I wouldn’t have gotten to see it otherwise.

Stein, of course, was being facetious about the bimbo.
Guess he needed some filler to make his, by now, stale personal crusade stretch to 1000 words: rich people waste too much money, they should be taxed more; if they grew up respecting money and what they have, they would be satisfied with less.
