Texas Sen. John Cornyn is leading an early charge against President Barack Obama, seeking to blunt the new administration's momentum in Congress while lighting the way for a GOP comeback in the next election.

"I think he has decided that the only chance Republicans have is to be very aggressive," political scientist Larry Sabato said of the Texan, who come to Washington six years ago as a defender of President George W. Bush.

Cornyn said the campaign committee role makes him a key player in the Senate GOP leadership as well as the architect of the party’s Senate campaign in 2010.

Would be pleased if this is not true. Disappointed if it is true.

Pick your fights, the ones you think you have a chance or the ones to make statement and this wasn't one of them.

Right now the republicans are in a hard spot, especially since our standard bearer (McCain) has defected. John has to pick and choose his fights and since he is the only one out and front I would ask you to put aside your concerns and disappointments and support him in his efforts.

What are you smoking.

We did not want RINO 'John McCain' in the first place. Only reason many of us held our nose and voted for him is because we were voting for Palin, also voting against Obama. Unfortunately many of us just chose to not vote rather than vote for 'John'.

Get a life !!!!

I really wish you hadn't drawn me into this empty debate as I didn't post anything to you.

You do seem bent on attacking conservatives and conservative principles and I don't really understand why.

Tick told you how he "voted" in the past, recent elections and while I have no responsibility to tell you, I will. Donated money first election to GW and voted for him twice; voted for Cronyn each election he stood for; even voted for McCain (against Obama).

Your desire in keeping criticism of Republicans mute, especially from folks that are here and self proclaimed conservatives is suspect at best. It makes one assume you wish principled Constitutional Conservatives would just sit down and shut up or leave, as I an Tick have, the party. Well you and those like you in the GOP have succeeded beyond your wildest dreams as more and more principled conservatives have left the GOP in the past 10 years than have joined, obviously.

All Tick, others, and self did was criticize John for his especially dumb vote for the bailout. And then we pointed out that until Republicans come home to roost on conservative principles they will continue to loose.

My only concern is for the Republic and definitely not the Republicans! And if you somehow read into that support for the Democrats then you do indeed have a problem that we won't solve in any amount of discourse or debate.

Who rattled your cage. No need to be nasty but I guess when you have no clear argument that is what you fall back on. If you would have read the post you would have noted that I said McCain had defected....I didn’t say support McCain but at least standby the one senator that is trying to stand up to 0bama and that is John Cornyn. He may not be the perfect conservative, there isn’t one, but he is all we have right now. No wonder the conservative movement is dead in the water.

Sorry about that. You did take me out of context.

I was not being nasty about John Cornyn. He spoke up and in a way I was praising him for that. Why has it taken so long, is he going to encourage other Republicans to get a back bone.

I am totally tired of all the RINO's in Congress. They act like Conservatives to get elected then they bend over for the Democrats.

I have every intention to stand behind all Conservative Republicans. So long as they actually stand their ground and not start leaning left.

Maybe you should read my comment #6 again, then you will realize why my cage was rattled.

Given that Cornyn has no chance of prevailing, what with other "Republicans" such as McCain, Snowe, Collins, and Lindsay Graham ready to do Zero's bidding, the question becomes,

"Is Cornyn doing this just to advance his own political career, his own standing as a conservative?"
