Me, too, I like to make mine huge but I know a few Freepers on dialup and when I finish a gif animation the software tells me how long it'll take to load on different connections. When it's too big I bring it down to what I think is a reasonable size, compromising so more people will see it (not click away).
when in campgrounds with slow connections I am reminded of waiting for files to load and am deeply thankful for small graphics. I need to see pictures but haven't the patience to wait 15 minutes.
You want them big. Do you try minimal colors? Another suggestion might be the best of both worlds to you; post a smaller version linked to the big one. If those don't work for you, keep doing what you you're doing. My two cents worth is free because I don't want you to feel obliged. :-)
