Have we really reached a point where we are going to cheer because someone appointed a liberal Dem who made some token gestures towards gun ownership in order to pander to her red congressional district?
Are we truly gullible enough to believe that Dem in-fighting about this, over someone who was hand picked by Chuck Schumer, is real?
I’m afraid I know the answers to these questions and I don’t like them. :(
Headline from NY Post ....not mine....
The decision was a major rebuff to some of the state's best-known Democrats interested in Clinton's seat, including Attorney General and former federal Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo, for whom Gillibrand once worked as a junior lawyer; Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, and Reps. Carolyn Maloney of Manhattan and Steve Israel of Suffolk County.
She's no doubt a placeholder and will be strenuously opposed in the 2010 primary, it still is fun to see Dems angered by themselves.
Although she is a Dem, she is not a liberal in the Obama/Biden/Cuomo(Mario)/Pelosi/Hinchey mold. In fact, there are Republicans in New York more liberal than her (i.e., Guiliani). And her positions on gun ownership and the Second Amendment runs deep in her family. (From what I have read, her mother was a member of her college rifle team and still shoots the Thanksgiving turkey.)
