Rep. John Murtha's invitation to house Guantanamo Bay detainees in his district has some local officials seeing dollar signs -- even though Murtha's comment was met with disbelief by others.
The Pennsylvania Democrat, chairman of the defense subcommittee for appropriations, is renowned for his ability to steer earmarked dollars to his district.
And after Murtha told FOX News that he'd be willing to take in terrorist suspects, some saw it as a job-creation opportunity. His district's maximum-security prisons are full, according to the state Department of Corrections, so a new prison would likely be needed to house any of the 245 detainees now in Cuba.

Whoo boy this guy is a loon.
No his supporters are the loons, he is doing what he always has to 'earmark' his next reelection. Hey he is going to need jobs in his district if Bama gets his way on coal mining. And I keep reading this is the 'conservatives' fault.
Rebuilding all those blown up buildings can bring in a lot of money, and jobs.
What a great way to provide jobs. Bring in the trash of the earth to rural PA. Next thing you know, it’s attracting a whole cadre of terrorists who will attempt to spring the terrorists already incarcerated. Not being geographically isolated, like Gitmo, terrorists will be able to enter from North, South, East or West. Wonderful. Perhaps the locals can establish Starbucks for IHOPs along the various routes to collect the terrorist’s tourist dollars.
If imprisoning terrorists is highly profitable and provides good union jobs, Obama will rethink his foreign policy proposals. Surely, would could catch many more than the couple of hundred we’ve got at Gitmo right now. You’ll need enough to supply every Congressional district!
Haha, that was my thought!
Two fer One fer Fun!
unfortunately sending them to his district-especially if it’s Johnstown will be viewed as torture by the “international community”. They’ll be crying to go back to Gitmo.

Yes. Gift shops and perhaps a theme park, as well. Tourism could boom there!
They should be released from Gitmo, and shipped to this idiot in boxes. The only job creation would be the hole diggers at the cemetery.
Make the inmates continuously listen to the Inauguration poem.
We western Pa’ers don’t need that kind of stimulatin’!
My town is split down the middle. Murtha’s district is on the south side of our main street. (Philadelphia Street), and Shuster’s district is on the north side of main street. How I wish I lived on the south side - just to have the satisfaction of voting against this senile old piece of work!
How very, very sad that the people in his district are so dependent on this POS that they continue to put him in office.
9/11 horrified me, and I wanted to do all I could to help my fellow Americans get through it. Now, after seeing the apathy and the selfishness of my fellow Americans, I don’t know if I could muster up any sympathy.
Do his constituents realize that housing these terrorist, not criminals, puts them and their families at risk. Why don’t they take a look a the the photo’s from the massacre at Belsan? The terrorists thrive on suicide missions. How may attacks will occur to garner attention to free their commrades? They know they would never actually get away with it but they love to blow themselves up and make the news.
I will be going with the “hate it for ya” attitude.
‘Death Hunt’s..for fun and profit! >:o)
We already store the country’s garbage garbage, why not the world’s human garbage? Besides, Fayette County needs jobs.
Now I am hoping that the raid by the IRS yesterday on one of Murtha’s pet PA contractors will cause much turmoil in Mutha’s life and bring about a day of reckoning so overdo for this King of Pork.
I have written my Senator this morning and voiced my opinion on Club Murtha for Jihadists in Pa. It is a National Security Issue. It will be with my money. We always knew of Gitmo was closed we would wind up paying millions or billions to build new--and who pays for this? Us fools that's who. Only 22% of Americans wanted Gitmo closed, if I recall from reading This Week in Congress (bills introduced) correctly.
Also, Frank, Reid, Dodd; and keeping it nonpartisan, include all government employees be investigated for insider trading. This IRS, SEC action will create a vast amount of new jobs in a struggling economy as well, plus could save us money in the future. Shorting the market can make for some very wealthy individuals (and friends), especially some set to retire. It has been written where else is insider trading such a dangling“carrot”, but to those “movers of your money” down in Washington. It would explain why they take the actions (inactions) or make the decisions that they do with "Crocodile Tears".
Saddam had "oil for palaces". I fear some of our pork barrel government spenders and their “friends” are guilty of the same like greed.
Note: The SEC and IRS has been very very busy lately.
Oh, and when do we see some of that Iraqi oil money to help shore up our economy? The price of Oil is down for now, how convenient on that level as well. All tis just a shell game.
