Sorry about it but generally, women’s sports in general are quite boring.

WNBA? Anyone, Bueler? Bueler?

OK, women’s volleyball is OK. Entertaining to watch.

“By holding back or whatever, you have potentially psychologically damaged both teams with some sort of arbitrary rule that is not in the book and only yields confusion “

You are joking right? Psychologically damage the team that holds back?

Guaranteed the members of the ‘winning’ team will never look back at this game with fondness for the next 50 years. They will feel only shame. They will regret the 100-0 score until the day they die.

There was absolutely no ‘thrill of victory’ for the winners nor was there ‘agony of defeat’ for the losers.

It probably became a joke to the losers long before the end. They couldn’t imagine the other team was pushing like they were. If I were on the losers side I would have scored baskets for the winning team just to make em happy.

gymnastics?

Not me.

If judging determines the winner it isn’t a sport it is an activity.

Why play a competitive sport?

I give kudos to the winning team for not down playing their game. I think to do so would have been insulting to the team that lost.

You do play to compete, right?

The winning team did not do anything wrong. They would have done something wrong for making baskets for the othe team. That would have been demeaning.

Demeaning to whom?

If it is 90-0 and the opponent pressing in back-court, you bet I would make a basket for the opponent.

It would be hilarious. Then I’d make another, and another, and another.

“Kudos to the winners for not playing down their game” ????
I think the winners didn’t play their best. If they would have played their best it would have been at least 150-0.

“Why play a competitive sport?”
Competitive is the key word in your sentence. I don’t arm wrestle my 5 year old and slam his arm down as hard as I can 100 times in a row either.

Do you?

Please. These girls were of the same age group. Not a five year old against a grown man. Your analogy does not cut it.

There is the winning team, a group of girls that practice to play their best. Is it there problem that there is a team that should not be in their conference?

Oh, the children. Give me a break.

I would think it would be insulting to the losing team to have the other girls toss them some baskets.

Re-read my post.

I talked about the LOSING team scoring baskets for the WINNING team ie: to make the score 92-0, then 94-0, then 96-0. Heck I’d even start shooting 3 pointers for the winning team to make it 99-0.

Get my point.

If I was down 90-0 and the other team tried to score a basket for my team a fight would break out.

skilled activity? Definitely but not a sport.

IMO, points or stopwatch determine winners not judges.

ok - so I get to decide who is more “skilled”.
I guess I’ll have to settle for that :)

Thanks for the additional info.

I agree with everything in your post. In our Catholic League (5th-8th grade), we have policy usually set by the ADs and Coaches along with the League Commissioners, for each sport. It’s “sportsmanship” (a huge part of the game) to not run up a score in that way. Our Catholic and Public High School Leagues are the same in some sports and not others so it depends on the specific sport. Our rec sports have different rules but they’re generally the same when it comes to this basic playing and coaching.

In this particular instance, the Coach was wrong and all the players got screwed.
