WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John McCain is imploring his Republican colleagues to drop partisan demands and let the popular president get to work.

The Arizona Republican made his first comments on the Senate floor since his rival, President Barack Obama, was sworn into office.

He said the nation has come together in a way that it has not for some time. McCain was speaking in defense of Hillary Rodham Clinton's appointment as the next secretary of State. Senate leaders had planned to confirm her by unanimous consent on Tuesday, but Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn objected because of concerns raised about foreign contributions to her husband's charity.

A roll call vote was planned for late Wednesday.

Shut up, Juan.

There isn't a single conservative in America that gives one quarter of a damn what you say about anything. in fact, the only people who do work right next to you in DC in the press corps.

If he would announce I think the money would flood in... but don't think McCain would do opposite what he did in the campaign, he would drag out all JD's dirty laundry.

BTW in case anyone doubts how badly McCain blew this, last night on PBS they did an hour on Obama and how he won, they were terrified of the Wright story and really felt it would cost them the election..... and McCain made it offlimits.

I am so sick of McCain and Graham. Neither one of them wanted to Republicans to win the Presidency and it sure shows now in the way they gush over the new El Presidente!

Yep! You’ve called it even more accurately. And occassionally, Dirty Harry will be allowed to side with Obacain since he is up for re-election in 2010 and doesn’t live in a safe Marxist state.

Don't insult Tokyo Rose. She was actually a patriotic American pretending to be an enemy propagandist. McCain and Graham are actually enemy propagandists pretending to be patriotic Americans.

He’s still transparent. Empty space(between his ears)is always “transparent”

I really do believe that John McCain threw the election just like a horse race, boxing match, basketball game could be thrown. A little bit of shaving here and there a little bit of laziness, a little bit of laying down here and there and bingo the election is lost.

Israel has been at war through how many Secretaries of State? 20?30? How has that worked out Johnnie? Maybe we would be better off without one.

I fear John suffers from sclerosis of the brain. Either that or he’s forgotten where he keeps his meds.

What is with McCain and Graham? Do they ever disagree with one another? I find it rather creepy.

Isn’t this some type of violation of Campaign Finance Reform? Shouldn’t he shut up or go to jail?

So many here are saying they’re glad McCain lost? Are you f’ing serious? Now isn’t this a little bit hypocritical? No Republican in their right mind should want anything but a Republican as POTUS. Stop being petty and think about uniting the Republicans instead of having meltdowns. Over half of the Republican party are conservative (but not ultra conservative or evangelical) so unless you accept that fact and realize that the party also has to sway independents (many who are moderate) then you’re going to be having same freakout session in four years.

The problem with McCain is that he is a Democrat saboteur masquerading as a Republican.

I’m glad he didn’t win even though I voted for him. He should’ve never been our nominee.
