Surely you recall Mr. Gingrich similarly fawning over Bill Clinton even as the Clinton was manhandling him like a prison bitch?

Newt likes power more than he likes truth. He's just as narcissistic as Obama, and he's drawn to those whose success in gaining power exceeds his own. It's this sort of behavior that explains why I lost my last shred of trust in Newt Gingrich in about 1995.
