People are really over-fawning over the speech.
I’m not going to say it was a “zero”. I have some familiarity with public speaking. He covered the points that he needed to cover. Language was concise (and any praise here goes to the speechwriter, not the deliverer). He delivered it without any major gaffes. I’d give him a six out of ten... and that’s being “bipartianly generous”.
It was no “I have a dream” moment, certainly no “I’ve been to the mountaintop” moment.
But the media treats it as if it is.
I agree. I suppose most (or at least some) people can only really recall a couple of quotes from ANY inaugural speech. FDR ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself’ and JFK’s ‘Ask not what you can do for your country....’. Although I don’t think O gets a 6 out of 10 given the expectations, I think in that respect he fell far short.
