There is no hurry about the canal. The project will go on until 2014.

No. A banana tree has both female and male flowers at the same time. I have no idea what could have gone wrong. The female flowers grow on top and the males on the bottom of the bunch (of flowers).
I take it that it did not flower at all? Interesting.
