In 2 of those 3 choices, I would annex the territory, but not the people.

Things aren’t so simple.

The culture of the United States is not the Mexican culture.

For all the friendly borders over the past century, don’t confuse US politics with Mexican politics. Two vastly different peoples.

Combine that with a Black President wanting to become Heffe over Mexico and count on major minority culture clashes here in the US.

It would be far more prudent to let Obama run a 4 year course then slide in a hard working Latino President or Caucasian who was sympathetic to Mexican culture in order to merge them together.

We are a nation without walls. Our largest risk from the south are from those who essentially vote with their feet. That we can live with. It’s simply an economic problem needing the mechanisms to redirect economic power structures.

The last thing we need to do is foment an adversarial neighbor, with generations of enemies who will not listen before they see blood.

Well, a lot of Mexicans joined the US military and they know the territory. And they are war veterans now. Some are Special Forces. Possibly some may need that 10 week course on urban warfare. They'll get hazardous duty pay and either another stripe or an addition to their clearances. Likely we have the ground intelligence from the NSA now.

Those gangs can't spot those guys. What they will see is the heavy hardware being unloaded at Galveston from Iraq. When heads are being sliced off in Mexico, it's time for AC-130s too. WP rounds to burn down uninhabited places big time. You know how fast those rounds fly out. Nothing lives.

All Calderon has to do is tell Obama to go in there on a rampage in locations to scare the hell out of those gangs. They are far weaker than Al Quida.

We don't wan't to occupy Mexico unless it's to get married.

Did you know car sales in Iraq are through the roof? Ford should build a plant there for F-250s.

There are plenty of reports of gang violence south of the border. According to this Daily Telegraph Article:
Since January, more than 1,300 people have been killed in execution-style hits or gunned down in fire fights, which often rage for hours in broad daylight and turn residential neighbourhoods into war zones. If the trend continues, 2008 will top last year's toll of 2,500 deaths in drug-related killings.
You don't hear so much about Americans at the Border. Too bad.

Americans are regularly abused. According to this article entitled US Warns Tourists of 'Small-Unit Combat' at Mexico Border -- Murder and kidnapping of Americans has become routine all along the US Mexican border. According to the State Department sometimes heavily armed attackers wear the uniforms of the Mexican police or military. According to Mexicans their military has even become part of the problem. The US Border Patrol has complained to the Bush administration about Mexican military incursions to no avail.

If there is silence about events at the border. The silence about killings north of the border is deafening. And yet....

More Americans killed by illegal aliens than Iraq war, study says The liberal LA Times is now reporting that Mexico's drug wars are now north of the borders--but soto voce. Think about it. A man or woman killed in Iraq or Iran in the line of duty is a hero. But what is an American killed at home by an illegal alien because the government has failed in its sworn duty to guard the borders. This is a pact between the sovereign and the person has paid taxes and loyalty. The answer is to that question is pretty awful. And it bodes ill for the republic.

But is it true?

Yes, according Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.When you start digging into the numbers the only ones that can be sourced with the feds are the number of American murdered in 2005: 16692
I have seen federal numbers for illegals held in jail ranging from 19.3% to 27% of the federal prison population.

Here's a sampling of USA cities wanted for murder. What you'll see is that in big USA cities like LA or NYC most of the murderers are Hispanic. Unknown are the % of illegals. In smaller cities the FBI will post the nationalities of the murderers. About 25% of the most wanted are illegals wanted for murder. This number agrees with the percentage of illegals incarcerated in federal prisons. +-25%

Pictures of top 10 most wanted in LA. Up until recent stories about crime in LA posted by the LA Times--the pictures included the nationality of the murderers. They were all foreign nationals and mostly Mexican.

Wanted for Murder in New York City.

Chicago wanted for Murder

Philadelphia wanted for murder

San Francisco wanted for Murder

New Orleans wanted for Murder

Pictures of suspects wanted for murder in Washington DC Alas, the Washington DC pictures have recently been taken down.

FBI USA 10 most wanted. (two of 10 are Mexican nationals) Around 40% of the FBI's wanted for murder are Mexican Nationals

There are currently no exact numbers on the number of Americans killed by illegals. Part of the reason is that the government deliberately obscures the number. I talked on the phone with the head of statistics for the US Bureau of Prisons. He said his office wasn't allowed to publish the number of illegal alien murderers. Rather they were forced to put legal and non legal residents in the same category. He said further that most of illegals in the federal prisons were in for drug related charges. Most of the illegals in jail for murder were in the state prisons. I talked to ICE. They put out detailed numbers on illegal child molestors. However, they put out nothing on illegal murderers.

Part of the reason for the silence on the matter is that there is evidence to suggest that most Americans--but by no means all -- being killed by illegals are black--as is the suggestion in this LA Times Article. Also this article from the LA Times. And here. This makes intuitive sense. We see stories regularly of drug gang killings in Mexico but we don't see those same stories in the USA. The reason we don't see those stories is not because its not happening. Rather we don't see the stories about illegals killing blacks because that kind of story is terribly politically incorrect. The populations being displaced in downtown sanctuary cities especially are American blacks. That means that their criminal elements would be pushed aside by Mexican gangs as well. That's also the story that the wanted for murder posters in all the major cities seems to suggest.

Why isn't there an outcry in the black community? Beats me.

Nevertheless, the pattern of non reporting is starting to break. Discovery Channel has a series called Gangland that mentions ethnic cleasing of blacks by Mexican gangs. One woman in San Francisco who had her family killed by an illegal is even demanding the city to drop its sanctuary city status. Illegals themselves have become the targets of kidnappers Mexican style in Arizona where drug money from south of the border is often parked.

Reported Foreign Nationals on Death Row in the U.S.

To look at other USA cities go here http://stlouis.fbi.gov/ and replace stlouis with the city you want.

That said, the true number of criminal aliens is far higher than is revealed by criminal aliens in prisons. Most are simply waived through the courts. DHS Secretary Chertoff, has been quoted as warning that two million people in this country illegally have committed serious crimes. Here is more info from Judicial Watch.

However the number of illegals on death row is far lower. Sadly, so many small towns and villages across America have sent their warriors off to war half way across the world only to see communities fill up with illegal aliens. The Center For Immigration Studies has provided a detailed account of the illegal alien gang problem

"The culture of the United States is not the Mexican culture."

The thing you forgot is that we are part of the same Northern CIVILIZATION. You have to go 15 hours south to Brazil by plane from LAX to find the Southern civilization. Then you have to learn Portuguese. And if you learned Spanish first and delved into Portuguese you will sound funny to them. The important people speak English anyway.

*The important people speak English anyway.*

English is the language of commerce.
When I was in Europe, most spoke English.
Many Europeans on Vacation here speak almost perfect
English.

I am 16 miles North of the Mexican border here in San Diego
The overwhelming majority don’t or won’t speak English.
Large percent of Mexicans living here for two and three generations,
will not learn English.

I've known this for a fact for years. Once in a great while I must drive through black and hispanic places and I'm a white guy. South Central L.A. Look straight ahead to the next stoplight and freeway entrance. Do not look at anybody.

I guess I'm neutral? Just don't make eye contact with anybody in those places. A cop told me that!!!?

Why don’t we just merge them all together, throw in Guam, Virgin Islands, Panama, Costa Rico, Guatamala, El Salvador, etc., and make them all the 51st State? Better yet, merge them with California, and make them part of California, since it’s a lost cause anyway.

With Obama in charge, you miscalculated, it will be 57 states.

“Large percent of Mexicans living here for two and three generations, will not learn English.”

How large a percentage is that? We have a lot of Hispanics in my area and many of those who grew up in Mexico or elsewhere south of our border do not speak English and won't learn it. Those who came as small children for the most part speak English without an accent. Those whose families have been here a couple of generations in most cases can't even speak Spanish.

I kind of doubt what you are saying. You're right about Mexicans not learning English like Europeans do, but there are some big differences between Europe and the U.S. and Mexico. In Europe they have good schools and most everyone takes English. They also have a bunch of small countries bordering other small countries where everyone speaks different languages. Europeans in many cases will speak more than one language because they are so often going to encounter people that do not speak their native language. A waiter in a European country for instance might be conversant in three or four languages because he has to deal with a lot of tourists from neighboring nations. Compare this to the U.S. where we live in a huge nation and hardly anyone speaks languages other than English because hardly any of us have a need to learn a foreign language, let alone several foreign languages.

Mexico is different than Europe obviously. It's a place where hardly anyone makes any money and a lot of people don't finish school. These illegal aliens we get up here are usually from the poorer end of the scale and often they'll have very little education. School was a luxury they could not afford to complete. They had to work to survive. Many do not even read in Spanish. When they come up here and live in communities with lots of Hispanic people, many will not learn English because they don't have to learn it. Life would be easier for them if they would learn English, but if you can get by speaking your native language in a foreign country it's really easy to fall into the habit of avoiding situations where you have to speak the language of the country you are living in. You don't learn because you aren't put in a sink or swim situation where you just have to learn it. The kids though that grow up going to our schools tend to learn English even if their parents don't speak it to them at home. I deal with Hispanic people all the time and other than small children I've never met any that were born here and lived here all their lives that don't speak English.

Mexicans are not the only people who have come and lived in communities where people mostly speak their native language. A lot of Europeans did the same thing. My wife's parents are children of German immigrants. They spoke German at home. They lived in a small farming community where most people spoke German and many never learned English. Throughout our history we've had Italian immigrant communities, Polish communities, Chinese, etc., where we'd have large concentrations of people from a foreign country that spoke mostly just their native tongue and not English. The immigrants themselves have often not learned English but after a couple of generations their children and grandchildren end up sounding like any other American from the same region.

I live in San Diego which has approx 1 million Mexicans and thousands more who are illegal.
The border between San Diego and Mexicao is the largest and busiest in the world.

Not only legal & illegals attend school here but huge numbers cross the border each day to attend public tax payer schools.

They are getting the best education as anyother here attending public schools.

The Mexicans have the highest drop out rate. Usually 10th grade is as far as most will go and at that their level of
learning is far below average.

After the fall of Siagon over 100,000 Vietnamese were sent here and more after, including Cambodia, etc.

Their language and ours is far more difficult to learn but
a major per cent of the Vietnamese learned English and have
held high grades. Large percent go on the Univs. here.
Large number are Drs., engineers, etc.

In a short period of time the Vietnamese coming out of a
major war and with nothing have built themselves up here.

Most Mexicans here are living like they would just south in Tijuana but their medical, schooling, food, housing, etc. at American Tax Payer expense.

It may be a little different in a border town where there is always a fresh infusion of people speaking the language from across the border and plenty of media in that language. I'm not on a border town. We just have lots of Hispanics. We have lots of Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians too and I deal with them often as well. You'd be surprised at how many of them don't speak English. Just like Hispanics they'll bring their kids or someone else to translate for them. They have been hard working on the whole and have done well in our community for the most part. Many of the Asian immigrants own businesses and many of their children have gone on to become very well educated. Of course a lot of them were people of some stature in their communities in Southeast Asia before they came here. Many were officers in the South Vietnamese Army, professionals and business owners and so on who were friendly to Americans and had to leave before the communists came in. The Mexicans who come here, especially the illegals, are generally not prominent people in the communities they leave. If they were doing so good down there they wouldn't come up here. We're not getting their cream of the crop. We're mostly getting poor people from poor communities with little or no education and no tradition of education. We're starting to see some successful Hispanic business owners in my area though. Some of these folks are doing well.

I just don't think that these people are all that different from anybody else. I wish we were getting more of their best and their brightest rather than the bottom of the barrel, but I think most of these Hispanics we have coming here are going to assimilate just like other immigrants have done in the past.

San Diego has a population of over 3 million and the size of the state of Conn.

re. the Vietnamese, most were the boat people with little education, I have talked with many who as kids hid from the Cong and escaped even four yrs. after the war.
One I spoke to last week had nothing, little schooling and
now an engineer Masters degree who lives and works here and in India.

Large Horn of Africa population here also, escaped wars, been in camps for yrs. now here. They came from nothing and some are doing well in school and some have made it to Univs.

San Diego also has over 30,000 Iraqis. Most are Chaldean Christians. and escaped from Sadam. Many are successful.

"English is the language of commerce."

You are right. My buddy and I had a goal to visit 11 countries in 3 years when possible and we did. Trains and BIG ferries, hotels and bed and breakfasts. He knew French and Spanish. I know German and Spanish. We dumped everything but English 90% because all those many people enjoyed practicing their English with us.

We met more friends in 11 countries than you can ask for and may not meet again. Women too when we had a hotel room at times and cleaned ourselves up. I still kick myself for not getting married to a nice Spanish woman. They want to be real ladies.

Your problem down there with Mexicans is they likely can't read or write in their own language. Illiterates. At least acknowlege they know how to survive getting out of a war zone, which TJ is. Obama might have to fix this situation with loud and burning explosives.

Pres. Bush and Laura had smiles in Midland TX today.

There are tens of thousands of Mexicans in our school system including illegals and those who cross the border.

They have the same access as the Horn of Africa kids, and the tens of thousands of Vietnamese and genreal area who
came here in 1970s same with the huge Middle East population and the list goes on. These vast populations came out of wars, settlement camps, on the run from the enemy, etc. will learn English.

The past many decades, most Mexicas even with bi lingual education for them will drop out and no major attempt to
learn English.

Then we are going to have problems. When you have the Joint Task Force analyzing Mexico’s future, our military and special forces are going to have to go down there to take care of business. They have the intelligence gathered now. That’s their job. Targets picked too. That border will be closed for a while. Those malos cabranos there have no idea what veterans from a real bloody war have planned for them. They leared to be very fast and ruthless in cities.

It's common parlance. United Stats of America, and United States of Mexico ~ two different places with the agreement of the people of Mexico.

So stuff it LTO, we know you ~ you came in here in 2002 initially as a Democrat campaigner. You've come back every election cycle, and you're in here today to defend Obama against even the slightest charge.

Look, your guy is NO GOOD. He's a cheater; he's a liar. His $175 MILLION for his inauguration is well over a 2000 TIMES as great as what Katie Couric's friend was trying to spend on the Palin wardrobe.

You have many other posts in FR that show the same sort of lack of undertanding of scale.

We'll be back at you in a year and a half dumping on the reprobates and thieves you're running for Congress against us.
