Slight Changes In Climate May Trigger Abrupt Ecosystem Responses
Science Daily ^ | Jan. 18, 2009 | Science Daily

Slight changes in climate may trigger major abrupt ecosystem responses that are not easily reversible.

Some of these responses, including insect outbreaks, wildfire, and forest dieback, may adversely affect people as well as ecosystems and their plants and animals.

The U.S. Geological Survey led a new assessment of the implications of a warming world on "ecological thresholds" in North America. The report, which was commissioned by the U.S. Climate Change Science Program and authored by a team of federal and academic climate scientists, is based on a synthesis of published scientific literature and addresses what research and steps are needed to help mitigate resulting effects.

"The report... is based on a synthesis of published scientific literature..."

That is, no actual testing was actually done!

Did the article mention that the science is settled, and that questioning their findings would not be allowed?

It’s called the “Butterfly Effect”.

Desperation indoctrination.

Things are not going well for the global warmers.

Thanks for posting the article.

Yes. I see the switch from using aver/global/temp to using any local changes.

Thing is, nature is a process which strives on balance. When things get out of balance, nature ‘adjusts’.

Even if we COULD affect the climate, nature would eventually make a correction.

Politicizing the weather isn’t going to work out too good.

The globe may in fact be entering a period of ice age for that matter. What, then? By their logic, perhaps greenhouse gases are a good thing? (Of course not).

In my more uncharitable moments, my theory is the goal is to corner the worlds resources on the scam-theory of “warming”. It’s just oh-so convenient that the one energy source the US contains - coal - is now Verboten.

Why is it always adverse results?
Perhaps it could cause rivers flowing with chocolate, and cotton candy clouds.

Actually, the increase in brush and forest fires IS man made. It is caused chiefly by loony environmentalists, who will not allow cutting and burning brush or harvesting dead trees in national forests.

The Bush government is filled with these leftist loonies, who will soon be coming out and further restricting any sensible approaches to dealing with the environment.

Not quite. Counting all sources, particularly including shales, the US could, within a decade, become self-sufficient in both natgas and kerogens (petroleum equivalents). Well over 900 billion bbl-equivalents of kerogens are known, not to mention at least 700 TCf of natgas.

Perhaps a bit more expensive than traditional crude, but nevertheless, these are available to us.

The enviromarxists are completely dedicated to inducing the destruction of a market economy, and their principal tactics are A) the dumbing-down of the public at large, and B) forcing the economy to run on wildly overpriced energy (think solar and wind here, plus the artificial 'shortage' of production of traditional petroenergy.)

While I can understand that some local change might lead to global change (butterfly effect), I also am fairly sure that such an event is of measure 0 in the universe of possible local changes. Otherwise, we simply would have a really unstable system of climate. And an ice age wouldn’t necessarily come from “local” change. You wouldn’t call a group of volcanoes going off at once a “local” change.

Anyone can say that local change causing global change is possible, and it could be. But possible doesn’t mean probable.

There have been many climate shifts in the past that were much larger and did no damage.

Of course there was no big money in cap & trade schemes and no CONTROL motive for politicians to mess with it back then.

Not sure what you mean, but good reading to you.

The figs I cited, btw, are usually considered to be low by industry pros...we've a shjtpotful of energy in this nation, just lack the will to go get it and use it.

In spite of the imminent arrival of their Messiah, the Global Warming Priests are desperate and obviously grasping at straws. Their long predicted end is not at hand, after all. Not even their Messiah can make the world hot again.
