Ordered a catalog from Baker Creek around the first of January. I’d order online, but I prefer to send a money order. Call me old fashioned...

Your post prompted me to quit lurking and make this comment. First, be warned, the language here is not pretty, but there is a "Frankenstein" similar to the Echelon or Carnivore projects. Take it for what it's worth, but it's not something I'd put past this new ominstration. I was turned on to this site while the media refused to report any good news about Iraq (while my daughter was over there), and the owner did a fabulous job of reporting, similar to Michael Yon.

To celebrate Tuesday, I'm buying myself a Beretta .45, I believe it's the Px4 model, but it's late and I might have that wrong. I'm excited to get to the range and finally start practicing.

We are buying a generator, and also revamping the fireplace. Currently, it's a waste (we've lived here 13 years and used it 2-3 times. It's old and the heat just gets sucked up the chimney. We're lucky, because we have lots of trees, and still have 3 really crappy cottonwoods that be perfect for burning, plus the normal loss of a branch that's as big as a city tree.

We're on a well, so water won't be a problem, but the generator will come in handy if brown or blackouts occur. We've already learned that coal is eeeevil.... yada yada yada

Like many mentioned on this thread, I'm expanding our tiny patio garden and starting to learn how to can and perhaps get a dehydrator. If I can bake bread from scratch, I'm sure I can learn to can food.

I also am crafty, and am looking for ways to sell my sewing and knitting. We have a local farmers market, but you need to be licensed to particapate, so, a monthly/weekly "farmers market" in my yard might be an option.

We are trying to go "low tech". The less info out there for the enemy to gather, the better. See the above Frankenstein.

We are working on paying off the rest of our bills, and possibly bury gold in our yard (just seeing if you're still awake on that last one...)

On the TV issue, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is an awesome movie site, they play non stop movies and have their lib actor interview now and then. In 2007, we bought a DVR recorder, and my hubby has recorded over 1000 movies (That's not a typo). They range from 1917 to 2008 (the 2008 is a doc on 9-11). I know, I've cataloged them in a database. If you're not into old movies, I suggest you might try them. Especially the pre-code era, but hide the kiddies. The WWII movies are awesome, and there's a ton less PC junk in them. Cary Grant is a favorite of mine. Other than waiting for season 5 of Lost to come out on DVD, I'll continue to ban any liberal TV.

PS. Google has it's MLK graphic up, I can hardly wait for Tuesday's graphic.

The Reference to Franken-stein- is definitely an eye opener, and not surprising. The software is probably based on “key word” recognition. I would suspect that an occasional reference to a “key word” might fall under the radar. But an assumed number of “key words” would trigger a catalogue file database.

The one thing the goverment don’t have is enough humans manning the info to take advantage of all the info. The government freely admits they are short on certain language translators and overwhelmed with info.

An aquaintance of mine, former military, in summary said this “I know what the government is capable of doing to fight resistance. We don’t have a chance of organizing anything meaningful without access to military technology”.

Spy drones firing rockets cross border in Pakastan is a good example. They use satellite imagery with GPS co-ordination to make precision strikes. They can monitor movements easily from thousands of feet above with infared, gps etc. The high tech usually wins the battles. But only if the target is reckless it it’s movement.
