I have a sis in law who lives near Doniphan. I love the areas, esp around the current river.
Alton is about 40 miles of bad road (but a beautiful drive) west of Doniphan. The only drawback of that area for older people is if you have emergency medical needs you get air-evac helicoptered to West Plains or Springfield.
