Applause for Biden interrupts Catholic church service
The Morning Call / The Associated Press ^ | January 18, 2009

Vice President-elect Joe Biden worshipped and received communion Sunday at the same Roman Catholic church President John F. Kennedy attended just hours before his inauguration.

Biden and his wife, Jill, sat in a pew reserved for him and his family toward the back of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and listened as the Rev. Larry Madden, S.J., delivered a sermon about God as a constant anchor and the promise of hope and change for those who believe.

Although Madden did not mention Biden's name, the presence of the vice president-elect was obvious in other ways.

Secret Service agents were discreetly stationed throughout the church, including either side of the altar. Toward the end of the 11:30 a.m. Mass, as one of the lectors urged those in attendance to welcome new members and visitors, some in the congregation laughed and then applauded, looking toward Biden. He eventually stood and acknowledged the response that included a standing ovation.

Among those at the service was Biden's former colleague, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., a regular at Holy Trinity.

This is why I am still suspect of the Catholic Church. Regardless of the church’s teachings, the Church, itself, is populated by a bunch of leftist, liberal loons.

And as for Georgetown University, it’s the very last place I would send any good Catholic kid to be educated.

Agreed. I wonder if Georgetown can ever be salvaged. You can get a great education there, but.... a Catholic education? No.

Once more the CINO bishops talk the talk, but can’t walk the walk. Abectors of Murder are welcome; but not those maintain the Faith they were taught.

Seems like there is a passage in the Bible about the lukewarm and the scandal givers. Better that they had never been born.

Biden’s bishop apparently sides with him. I called him out on his tacit acceptance of Biden’s position and surprise, no response.

My dear cousins in Rhode Island are Democrats and Catholic. They support the Democrats no matter what happens. Patrick Kennedy? He brings home the bacon is what I was told. They
are union teachers and do not like the mention of pro life.
They are self serving *&*&%$*#@**

Judas was a Devil, and he betrayed Jesus - my question to you, was this a valid reason for the disciples to quit?

There are devils in the Church indeed - but leaving isn’t the answer..

Some Catholics, like those at this Mass, are bloomin’ eejits!

They just blame it on the Protestants!

Our homily last night, as well as our Prayer of the Faithful, made special mention of the incoming administration. Our Monsignor also made a special mention at the end of Mass to pray for this Administration and for justice and peace for the World.

I could take it as support for this admin or just as prayers for our Country and World and this Admin. I take it as the latter.

Yup! The Church sure has changed! Applauding the presence of the Vice-Abortionist-Elect?????

If you would like, attend a traditional Latin Mass, you'll see nothing has changed.

The ambiance there when the subject of Biden/Obama comes up in a homily is not one of elation but one of deep grief.

Many have a problem with him and others like him receiving Communion. There’s not much we can do about it.

It boggles my mind, too. I have a hard time imagining any Catholic/Christian, or Jew, voting for Obama. I have a hard time imagining anyone who values freedom, our Constitution, voting for him or many of our current dems and repubs.

Pope Benny, who I love, is not so well liked among some American Catholics.

I agree. But it’s no different than the Kennedy family. I’m still waiting for Ted to be excommunicated.

It’s very frustrating. I’d cheer if Pope Benny or any Catholic Bishop officially excommunicated Biden, Pelosi, any Kennedy, etc. It’s just not going to happen.
