BTW, downtown LA used to be essentially J-Town. All the J's have pretty much moved elsewhere over the years (after returning after the camps).
Used to be not much in LA anyway. Fur Shur there were hardly any Mexicans or Palestinians there in the 1920s and 1930s.
They just moved in like they thought they owned the place, then made sure there was lots of trash around. We cruised down 2nd and 3rd one day right after they'd shut the doors at the COB, and guys were out there scattering large pieces of paper and cut strapping wire.
Guess that was to slow down the cops for what they were going to do next which was sell dope, untaxed hootch, women, and all that sort of stuff.
There are street lights ~ without bulbs.
Right in the middle of all that is the Otani hotel ~ first class by any standards in the world. Go outside and turn left and you could get slit from stem to stern and no one would know.
Reminds me of downtown Cleveland.
It was creepy and dark.
