I don't smoke and I allow smoking in my home. I will not make my friends go stand out in freezing cold weather. They take enough abuse without me piling on.
That’s the decent thing to do. My Dad never smoked but he would never let his Brothers in Law stand outside.
You sound like most of my non-smoking friends. In most, I don’t smoke, but most of them do have a family member that smokes and if they light up, I will.
My goodness, upsdriver, you are a throwback to a better time!
I certainly do remember people who always had an ashtray or two tucked away in the drawers of endtables “just in case” a smoker dropped by. They would come out when company came over and go back in the drawer when they left.
**sigh** I miss those days when people actually got along.
Regards,
PS: If, on the rare occasion no ashtray appeared on the coffee table, the visitor did a remarkable thing: He didn’t smoke! Imagine that!

I have a friend that is just like you and I am very appreciative. Even though I know his “policy,” I will still try to be polite and ask for his permission before I smoke. I hope that our mutual respect will continue.
