NEW YORK Federal investigators said both engines are missing from the US Airways jetliner that ditched into the Hudson River as reports emerged that the pilot who safely landed the aircraft had considered an emergency landing at two airports. Police divers were using sonar to find the engines, which was believed to be in the water.
As investigators scoured the wreckage of the Airbus A320, many of the 155 people aboard recounted survivor stories and hailed the pilot as a hero who delivered them from certain death.
The pilot, Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III, was in good spirits and showing no outward signs of stress from the ordeal, a pilots union official said.

“which was believed to be in the water”
Glad we have a starting point.
I’m assuming the engines were there on takeoff. Please que the Twilight Zone theme.
When found check them for animal hair, kind of like a fur coat or something.
The engines may have been looted overnight.
were the engines ripped off when it hit the water? I’m wondering if NOT having that additional weight is what enabled the plane to continue floating..in my mind, losing the engines on impact, if in fact that’s when it happened, had a tremendous amount to do with no fatalities..
Also check Donnie Darko’s bedroom.
check e-bay for 2 rolls royce engines, slight water damage, for sale, cheap..
“The engines may have been looted overnight.”
If they fell off as the plane flew over the Cross Bronx Expressway they would have been!
Quick, somebody Photoshop Looter Guy in here...
I just heard an AirBus guy say that they’re designed to come off under these sort of circumstances.
Very true. But how would a flock of geese tear off two engines? Just asking, I don't pretend to know about these things.
not sure, sounds like they missed a bridge by 900 feet as well on descent.. he did a heck of a job gliding it down..
I would expect those engines to get ripped off , that water was fairly calm , when the engine lips catch solid, I would think they would shear off... but I’m no crash expert..
probably be a video or two that pops up of the crash, must be a few webcams around that area..
I wish I’d read your comment before I posted #11.
Aside from the fact that "journalists" these days can't seem to use correct subject/verb agreement (engines is plural, so therefore engines were believed...not was believed) where the heck else did they think they would be? With something as newsworthy as this we would have certainly heard if one (or both) had landed on a road, a building, a car, a person, etc.
No wonder print news is dying.
GE
I could have prevented this. but New York is the only State where my Birdbuffer is not approved. Hmmm, other airports not using my system, and are aware that it is guaranteed and still use the shot guns, noise makers etc. which don’t work, then they may be considered negligent, and maybe a good lawyer could collect.
Just thinking,
PETA is lambasting the pilot for killing the birds and algore is blaming him for his small part in causing global warming that probably caused the birds to be there in the 1st place............
Well I didn’t write that very clearly. They are designed to come off from the water crash (or land for that matter) not the bird ingestion. Sorry!
With an engine in his basket along with the beer. LOL!
Who knew?
