We are called to set the agenda, to establish the dominant paradigms of truth and beauty. When the church sponsored artists, we got the great cathedrals, the Sistine Chapel, etc. Government-sponsored art gave us a guy with a bullwhip up his butt.
To make movies or TV shows, books etc. that have moral messages and obvious Christian leanings is all fine and good, and I applaud the efforts of anyone who can accomplish such a feat, but to feel that we must come up with a “Christian version” of every worldly pleasure (exemplified in so-called “Christian Rock”), which so many think we must do to be “relevant”, or “to get the young people into church” is just wrong. At best, a shallow faith is the result, and at worst, it is just destructive.
