So? China was a vital ally in WW2. Does that mean they should be in NATO? No, of course not.

That Turkey was a “vital” ally in the Cold War is not relevant to whether they should be a NATO member.

In my opinion, NATO members should be strictly ethnically, culturally, and historically European.

LOL. That's a non sequitur if I ever heard one. I suggest you read more about China and WW2. In WWII China was more a victim than an ally. And the break between the communists and nationalists affected our post war relationship with China.

NATO was established as part of our containment policy toward the Soviet Union and the defense of Europe. Turkey's strategic location was a vital part of that policy. I suggest you take at look at Reagan's confrontation with the Soviets about the stationing of IRBMs in Turkey. We had, and continue to have, important military bases in Turkey. NATO still exists. The China of WWII no longer does.

In my opinion, NATO members should be strictly ethnically, culturally, and historically European.

You are entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts. Why would we now banish Turkey from NATO, an organization it has belonged to since 1952?
