Regardless or Irregardless? If you think about it, the word irregardless is a double negative. It does not exist in standard English. Use regardless instead. That is what is meant.

Irregardless is a common mistake made these days. So much so that I believe some dictionaries are including it as an acceptable variant, UGH!

It is a bastardization of IRRESPECTIVE and REGARDLESS. Both those words mean the same thing for the most part. You are right, putting those two together would mean something like "regardful", or respective..
