SALT LAKE CITY Salt Lake City police were in a three-hour standoff outside a shed behind a Salt Lake City home before finding out there was nobody inside. The standoff started Thursday after police got a report from a woman living inside the house that she thought she saw her roommate's estranged boyfriend enter the shed with a gun.
Officers secured the area, but after clearing the house and sending K-9 dogs to the shed, they found it was locked and there was no one there.

If you want police help really fast... call 911 and tell them to send the coroner, because the perp didn’t make it.
There was a great story on here lately about police in New Jersey. They had a long standoff at a bank one night. Turned out the intruder they saw was a cardboard cutout from a sales display.
LOL
Last year the local flatfoots were chasing a guy and he ducked into an empty house.
The SWAT team was called - after 7 hours of ‘negotiation’ they found the house empty.
Some days ya win, some days ya don’t.
“There’s a guy standing in the lobby of the theater wearing a fedora and carrying a whip. He is standing very, very still. I might need some backup.”
If you wrote that into a story, I would have problems with suspension of disbelief.
Or maybe not.
Er-ah... How does one have a “standoff” with nothing presenting an OPPOSITION? These COPS are DOPES: Dumb Officers Pursuing Evaporating Suspects!
Now, where are those donuts?
Maybe they had David Copperfield surrounded?
I keep a scanner running in the background while I work at home - it like listening to a long running, never-ending soap opera.
The ones I like are the folks who follow a chase with a scanner (many here in town do) and when the creep is in their backyard call 911 and offer to “hold the suspect at gunpoint” till the cops catch up.
I won't say I live in a good or bad part of Anchorage, but I do carry everywhere I go and while outside in the yard - zoning will not allow me to have a 6 ft fence on the front of the house or an 8 footer in the back - all kinds of trash runs thru the yard dodg’n the cops.
I have one of the largest developed parks in town across the street (ball and soccer fields) so we did expect some of this.
How are things going for you?
It took 3 hours to run a background check on a shed?!?!...
Financially? About like for everybody else.
Family - quite well.
Here is wisdom - we are going through 2x as much wood as I anticipated this year. All that global warming. Three full cords thus far, and we live in VA!
That's 'cause ya live in the wrong part of VA!!!!
there is no way a doughnut would last 3 hours surrounded by a gaggle of cops
LOL, yeah. The full load of wood on the porch (24’ x4’ x4’) is almost gone.
That is amazing.
GZD, we have more.
Police are really stupid people aren’t they?
The populace are beginning to despise these jack booted thugs, and rightly so.
