He was not an excellent CIC. He let Rumsfeld run the war while he kept his head in the sand. Many troops died because they were too chicken to “escalate” the war. They were afraid of the media. I spent 15 months in the sand and carried plenty of dead bodies in the back of my UH-60. I put my ass on the line many times. Bush could have put his ass on the line a little more if you ask me. taking trips to meet the troops in the combat zone doesn’t count.

I like Bush, but why did he have to be such a pussy when it came to the media? Typical politicians want us to fight wars with one hand tied around our balls. He finally got some backbone and pushed for the surge and it was effective.
