And of course the Bushbots' response it to tell you how safe we all are.
No one can do what you propose. Yes, journalists and citizens can speak up one way or another. But there is no substitute for the man himself. There just isn’t. The man who makes the decisions is ultimately the one who must articulate the reasons for the decisions.
It’s not a matter of “media savvy,” either. It’s the ability to speak at all, in complete sentences, in coherent paragraphs, in relevant anecdotes. A man who cannot do these things is not really qualified to be President, because he will not be able to lead.
Bush has done nothing to slow the country’s march into slavery and oblivion. In that department, he is a failure.
I was shocked to shocked I say-lol.
You're wrong. Those are the three years the Gators won their football titles.
God bless Mr. President, and fair sailing into your twilight years!
It’s a shame there are some who feel the one issue he failed on (and yes he did fail on Immigration) is the only thing worth mentioning about his presidency.
He kept us safe.
He ended funding for abortions (as much as he could with his executive powers).
He initiated tax cuts that will now be reversed by the Obamanation.
I would vote for him *again* in a primary and a general election, even knowing how he performed now, compared to the lot we had in this last primary/general cycle. None of them (except for Sara Palin) had the charisma, class, guts, leadership, and quite frankly, proven conservative credentials he does/did. None of the Bush-bashers can convince me differently.
IMO, *they* are the ones who should STFU all the way back to DU/Daily KOS/MoveOn.org . It amazes me how similar their posts are to those on the dung heaps previously mentioned. Never did I think that I’d see a “chimp” post on FR, and I have previously (don’t know about this thread in particular, but I’ve seen such on FR before, during the height of the Immigration flack).
Politics makes strange bedfellows I guess. That, and the concept of “pragmatism” seems to be a rare commodity on the Internet.
Very few people in this world have the communication talents Ronald Reagan had. I daresay no one in the GOP currently has them, either. I do not expect a candidate or president to be talented in all things.
What George Bush did bring to the White House was honesty, decency, and the willingness to persevere. He DID things, rather than talking about it all the time, like Clinton (or Obama, as we will soon see). He defended this nation despite the attacks from the left, the Europeans, and some of the people who were in his own party. He has kept us safe, held up the honor of the presidency, and done what he felt was the best for the American people.
I do not feel that we are marching towards "slavery and oblivion." That is a defeatist attitude which I do not share. I am proud of this nation and although I know that we are going to have a bad patch for a while, I have faith in the people of this nation, and of God's blessings on our republic. Taking such a negative view of things only leads to high blood pressure and a worsening view of everything, and I am simply not made that way.
History will judge the president long after we are gone. I think that historians then aren't going to be looking at opinions here, but on rather what the long-term effects of the Bush presidency were. My own opinion is, of course, different from yours, and neither of us is going to know the final outcome.
Well, FR is supposedly a conservative forum. W is not a conservative. Nor was he raised by one. We were wishful thinking if we thought the Establishment Man’s son would be a conservative. He fought a good war. So did FDR. We’re still paying for his big government “solutions”. Our offspring will be paying for W’s big government “solutions” for a long time. If Obama tried to nationalize the banks immediately after innauguration, the same folks defending Bush would be screaming about it.
Look, he fought a good war. He did a lot of other good things. He is not, nor has he ever been a conservative. What the hell’s wrong with “conservatives” who won’t see how he’s set this whole thing up for B. Hussein? Handing a country over to a Frank Marshall Davis mentored, Cloward-Piven taught, Alinskyite communist (this is not exaggerated) regime with a nationalized financial system, diminished currency, and wide open borders. I’m starting to think my New World Order conspiracy theorist FRiends aren’t as quirky as I once did. He kept us safe...how safe do you feel now? Defend him all you want, just don’t epect to be cosidered a conservative.
lol...
You people who rant about how Bush isn't conservative fail to provide us with a conservative, electable candidate.
The country is not conservative. It is center left right now, and hopefully we will be able to move it to center right over the next couple of years.
Demands that a candidate or president adhere to a litmus list of positions is a losing game. If you get everything you want in a candidate (and I am noting your screen name) you will end up with a candidate who loses.
Those of us who like to see our country governed by people with at least a modicum of common sense have allowed people like you to claim the high ground with your "perfect conservatism." We need to claim it back, because your draconian demands about what the GOP needs to do are going to lose us a lot of elections, in my opinion. You guys have already lost most of the younger members of my family. Most voted for Obama because they believed his "nice guy" facade. Those who have stuck with the GOP are disgusted at the constant carping at Bush.
I'm sure the usual people will be here to tell me how stupid and RINOish I am. I don't particularly care.
I feel sorry for you...
Oh well, I’m glad I was wrong then, my apologies! (must do something about my knee-jerk problem, a huh)
