There were a few hits sprinkled throughout the nominations. I think “Mamma Mia” and “Benjamin Button” made money. However, it might have helped if they’d nominate one particular movie that people really enjoyed, namely “The Dark Night”.

"Benjamin Button" cost $150 million to produce (not including advertising and prints), has brought in $94 million so far and is sinking fast. I predict it will never see black ink.

"Mama Mia" is a hit because of the worldwide box office.

Spielberg actually said: "they keep saying we should make movies for wide audience distribution, but you people in the room are what this is all about and we need to keep making the movies that show off our art" -- or something to that effect... this from the man who made a fortune off ET...
