A former Hunterdon County school official pleaded guilty yesterday to embezzling more than $90,000 from Delaware Valley Regional High School, saying he stole most of the money from the cafeteria. Robert P. Walsh, 43, of Forks Township, Pa., admitted in federal court in Camden that he committed the crime from 2005 to 2007 while he served as the school's business administrator and then superintendent, authorities said.
"This was a top school official, well-compensated, whose charge and duty was to protect the interests of the school district and its students," Acting U.S. Attorney Ralph J. Marra said. "Instead, he acted as a petty thief who had no qualms about literally stealing lunch money from the cafeteria."
Walsh was the district's business administrator for 12 years before being appointed superintendent in July 2006. He resigned from his $142,000-a-year job in October 2007.
Walsh admitted he stole about $68,000 over two years from the cafeteria, then diverted checks from the school's general bank account to conceal the losses. He also admitted filing false expense reports and was reimbursed $3,300 and that he bilked the school district out of $19,000 by receiving tuition and life insurance premium reimbursements that exceeded the authorized level.

In 1997, a jury in Bergen County acquitted Walsh of charges he stole $10,000 from the Moonachie schools while he worked as business administrator from 1992 to 1994.

Ecce homo.
He doesn't look gay, does he?
Don’t know about now, but free school lunches for “underprivileged” kids used to be a big thing when I was going to high school.
It was always interesting though to see certain cars pull up to the backdoor of the kitchen in the late afternoon and load up with egg trays, 5 or 10 loaves of bread, boxes of chicken wings....
And since the article doesn’t say so I can only surmise that he’s also a democrat.
They will also find he ran a protection racket. “Hey, kid. Gimmee a dollar and I will make sure no one beats you up today.”
if he's involved in education in NJ; he's a democrat.
This area is rural and not wealthy.
it’s a shame he stole from the school district and from children.
Get a rope!
Hunterdon County is not the boonies. Oh my! I’m so surprised!
So what else is so effing bloody new?
This is New Jersey. The most corrupt state in the country LOL! I ought to know, I live here!
I have to disagree. It’s a very wealthy community, perhaps the wealthiest county in all of NJ.
Don’t surmise. We have crooked Republicans in NJ also, LOL!
The BIG question:
Did he report it to IRS, and pay his taxes on the ill gotten gains; or is he now in REAL trouble?
