A secret Israeli plan for airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facility was scuttled last year when the United States rebuffed Israel in its request to fly through Iraqi airspace, according to a New York Times report on a covert U.S. program.

See the book recommended on my FR page for that answer.
Title is wrong. The US did not have plans for a strike.
Just counterinsurgency plans.
Isn't that splitting hairs? Taking out their nuclear program is taking out their nuclear program, however accomplished, don't you agree?
Title implies that ther will be an attack with airpower.
Bush made a huge mistake by not allowing Israel the right to fly over Iraq. He made a bigger mistake by not following up on his “I will never allow Iran to make nuclear warhead material while I am in office.”
The NYT doesn’t strike me as the problem so much as some very loose lipped people in the government. I’m guessing the Iranians probably knew before the Times ever did.
Only problem is that it didn't happen, no matter who didn't accomplish it.
As a follow up. Bush has only 10 days to rectify those blunders and make it right. Really, he probably only has 5 days at the most. Waiting until the day before zero is sworn in would be kind of strange, although it WOULD be sort of like when Iran released the hostages right after Reagan was sworn in.
And YOU know this for sure....HOW?
I am laughing at all the Freepr crticisms of Bush, or whoever based on what THEY heard.HA!
As if Bush would ever announce we agreed to let Israel fly over Iraq airspace..HA!
Of COURSE we would allow Israel to fly any dang area they wanted to! they are on OUR side...and their aren’t many countries who will do some of the dirty work. But we sure as hellll aren’t going to announce that!
What a way to go out though. One can dream!
Unless SCOTUS does something miraculously, we’ll end up with a not-so-nice fraudulent foreigner as prez.
I agree. The NYT reporter didn’t take an oath to protect classified information, his/her source did.
LOL...you got me on the not allowing Israel to fly over Iraq but what about his promise on the second one?
They probably held the story until the end of the Bush admin so that they’d be certain they’d not be prosecuted.
Hey, thanks for responding so courteously to my over the top post !
Perhaps Bush has intelligence that would allow another way to deal with Achmad-dinnerjacket...
Or, here’s one....Blagoevich is working on a deal to get paid by Cheney to personally sneak over to Iran to take out the the nuclear warheads! Or at least read rudyad Kipling to the Mullahs, while we take out the nuke facillities.
( yes, I had a lot of coffee today..in preperation for the return of Jack Bauer tomorrow night!)
The liberal media didn’t have anywhere near a monopoly back then. Plus, FDR was one heck of a communicator. Bush isn’t.
...Fox News “reporting” baloney for the New York Times. That’s no surprise, either.
I’m not buying it...just like the Israelis purposely played the press for the last six months insisting they had no intention of striking Gaza. This sounds to me like a leak the Israelis wanted to make, so that Iran is lulled into a false sense of complacency that no strike will occur....until BAM!
